Akkk!
Looks like my BOGE strut bodies taper from 2.00" to 2.07" just above the spindle mounting ring. This prevents cutting the weld and sliding the spindle up the strut body without enlarging the spindle mounting ring. I have read posts on raising the spindle on BOGE but how is it done?? Thanks Todd

What about making a 1" spacer to raise the ball joint in the a-arm.
Something with a female thread on top to accept the ball joint and a male thread on bottom to seat in the a-arm?

They certainly have done this with other make cars and trucks for that matter. It seems certainly feasible as long as you over engineer the parts for safety. Think billet and hardened. Will you need this and the air bags?

It is just to keep the geometry in good shape because I will be lower than normal.

As I recall, my buddy raised the spindles on his Boge's by cutting out a slice above the control arm and inserting it below.

Re: Akkk! - Raising spindles
Quote:
It doesn't sound like you've removed the spindle yet, but chances are, you'll have to press the spindle up on the strut as years of use may have formed a lip right where the strut and spindle ring meet. I'd want an interference fit between the strut and spindle, press the two together to the desired position, then weld it all together. |

Thanks ED and Chris!
Souk - it came flared from the factory, it is entended to keep the spindle from breaking a weld and rising on the strut tube. I think I have a solution here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/198397-air-ride-911-here-comes-hoopty-clause-post1716500.html#post1716500 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- There was a small problem raising the spindle on the BOGE strut body. The strut body increases in diameter from 2.00" to 2.07" just above the spindle. This means you cant cut the weld and slide the spindle up and reweld it. This may be my solution. Scrap the whole strut body except the spindel and the bottom of the strut body tube and rebuild with some 2.5" and 2.0" DOM Like this: ![]() --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ![]() .

I F*&KIN LOVE IT!!! Thats funny!
You gonna have air brakes on it too? ![]() Your design looks solid, i would go with that! Add some extra triangle bracing on the spindle to the new DOM tubing for alittle extra support. (like what people do to the Bilstein RSR's after the spindle gets raised)

Damn! That means I can't rasie mine either! I think I'll just have to got to custom A-arms with a Mustang II spindle
I think your solution should work Doozer. |

Thanks Don!
No air Brakes but maybe fuzzy dice... There is now a question of side load as this is a shock and not a strut, but I have the MFG. checking it out http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=1716500#post1716500 Thanks Todd

It shouldn't be that hard to secure a spindle on a mill table and use a boring bar to take out some of hte center (even though i wouldn't spin it very fast, i wouldn't want to spin that odd shaped thing on a lathe
)...I'm working on making my own spindles. i know the factorys are forged, but it might be do-able.

Could you take an old shock and release all the pressure, then hook up the air ride system parrallel to it to give you the ride from the air shock and the strenght of the stock shock?
And if your replacing the shocks, are you also replacing the torsion bars? IF so, you could build an arm that comes off the A-arm vertically and lay the air shocks flat, hooking them up that way to give you your "air ride shocks". Kind of like how F1, Audi R8's have them... The only problem is the room you take up doing that. The picture is lame, but it gets the idea across. i think with some skillful thought it could be done clean.

Funny you should say that Don....
Actually I looked at doing that first but the 90deg arms would be the same length as the a arm from pivot to ball joint and I have some space limitations. I also looked at replacing the strut with a rigid tube and putting the pivot on top of the strut mount. But in the long run replacing the strut with an air shock/strut is the most true to form. The air spring is built around a shock/strut so the torsion bars would not be used. Picture is good! and I bet it could be done! Thanks Todd
