Euro Fog Light
I'm restoring my 83 ROW SC.
The rear fog light never worked. During my project I found the lamp holder was the obvious problem. I had an extra lamp holder for the front trunk light that I was able to make fit. It's all wired up and the other night I installed the battery for the 1st time in 6 months. Installed the fuses 1 by one to test the various systems. Anyway, I couldn't get the fog light to come on. This alao made me realize that I don't know what's supposed to turn it on. It's not in my wiring diagram. I have an original ROW owners manual, but can't read german. I know someone can give me a quick answer here. Is it on the fog light switch? Thanks!

Don't you twist the foglight switch on the dash for rear fog? Pull/push for front. I think that's it.

Yep, dual circuit. Push pull and turn with a click.

Jamie. pulling turns the front's on unless the high beams are on.
Mine has a relay for the front fog's near the main fuse panel in the front. The wire that closes the relay is brown and comes from ? (I'll look at the diagram) I think what you are saying is that if I twist the fog light switch it should turn on the rear. So, there must be a seperate wire that goes only to that rear light. Right? Is this by way of the fuse box or is it straight from the switch? I'm gonna start from the back. 1st check the bulb again and the scoket and then work on the wire back. I recall it just went into the bundle with the license plate light and then into the tub with the rear turn/tail signal bundles. If it's not the bulb or the socket, Ill make sure the hot wire is not grounded somewhere. Then I'll go at it from the switch end. Hopefull it's something easy on one end or another and not a problem in the middle of the harness. Any suggestions? thanks!

The factory manual shows that, "from model 1981", the rear fog light is powered directly from the fog light switch from terminal II ((roman numeral II) via a white/green wire. It goes to a 6-pin connector somewhere in the engine compartment. From that connector, a white/RED wire goes to the fog light.
Other wires in the 6-pin connector: license plate lights, backup lights, turn signal left rear, brake light left rear, side marker light left rear. Terminal (roman numeral) I of the fog light switch goes to the relay you mentioned that powers the front fog lights. |

Hi Brian, it's been a while. I found what your referring to in the wiring diagram a few weeks ago. (Actually it was New Years!)
Intresting the somewhere it mentioned the connector beingon the right rear of the engine compartment. I'm almost positive it's the left. There is a matching one on the right. Anyway, I haven't got to that project quite yet. I got my top back on and have driven it a bit. I did a lot while I had it apart for painting. I have a lot of things to sort out including a roll bar installation, ride height, alignment, interior installation. The fog light is farther down on the priority. It might be a good project for a night when I don't have time to get into something major. Anyway thanks for the help. Now gotta figure out the easiest way to get to the back of the fog light switch. I hope its from under the dash and not behind the ventilation system in the trunk!

Hi Bill,
You've been a busy puppy. I can see why the fog light is a ways down the priority list. Good luck getting to the back of the fog light switch! Brian |
