Winter rebuild underway
Well, I finally got to pick back up on my rebuild after a long hiatus and other projects but my long block is coming together nicely.
I just wanted to share some pics in case anyone needs some inspiration. This has been a looong ongoing resto-rebuild on a 78 SC and now I am starting to realize all the parts I need to replace. All the all biggies like the Fuel tank, engine fan, one pressure fed tensioner, engine tin, yada, yada, yada. Oh well... that's P-cars for ya. ![]()

NOw that is a clean short-and-a-half block. NO cam towers yet so I can't call it a longblock. not long now! Keep up the good work.
Are the missle pull-tag looking red markers identifying you next point of attack for the restoration. ![]()

Those tags are very handy. I use them often to remind me of the status of selected areas.
"Remove before flight" attached to the steering column sends me right to the lugnuts every time. At my age, I need all the help I can get!

I miss not having an engine to play with this winter. Enjoy the project. Your stable looks nice.

Thanks guys, that clean short-and-a-half is due to a whole lot of quality time spent with the glass bead blaster. Cleaning this motor has been a lot of work but the peace of mind I get from knowing I did my best goes a long way when the time comes to fire it up again for the first time and check for leaks. the "RBF" tags on the SC are souvenirs from my Aircrew days in the Navy. And yes they do come in handy for final reminders. Some of my buddies that do Autocross keep bugging me to get them some for their pits.

Very nice case Norm! Stock rebuild or are there some performance goodies lurking inside???

Nope, no mods inside. But I do have SSI's on this motor and I'm thinking in the future I will switch from CIS to Carbs for quicker throttle response. Bruce Anderson says it feels like a 50 HP gain.

The motor looks great but bead blasting the case would keep me awake at night.

I only blasted(at 20 psi) the outside surfaces, The inside was cleaned with Varsol and nylon brush. No oil passages or machined surfaces were touched. Besides, I masked everything off before it went in the blaster. No lost winks here.
