I can only help with question 2 - to wit see if a magnet sticks to it. If yes then steel. If no, then SCORE!

3. Turn the motor by hand and look or feel the MFI cog on the back of the pump to determine if it's turning.

With MFI, the volume of fuel is very low coming out of the MFI pump. It's noit like CIS. The little plungers that pump the fuel are timed with the engine, and only squirt when the intake valve is open. They are very high pressure though, since the injector nozzles don't open until around 220-240 PSI

What you should do is put in some fresh fuel, a fresh fuel filter, and make sure you have spark.

Great find!!!

Yes ... Bosch H4 lenses are readily available from our host!

1. My suspicions are that you need to pull the MFI components off and clean them thoroughly in B-12 Chemtool before trying to fire up the engine! Change out/rebuild 100% of the factory rubber fuel hoses to guard against fires of the sudden and painful kind! Especially the cold-start supply lines!

2. Disassemble and clean the entire brake system ... rebuild those parts not beyond repair.

3. Disassemble and clean eveything electrical ... 5-pin, 6-pin, 14-pin connectors, etc. attached to the engine and dash/instrument panel ... lube all connection with Dow Corning 4, 111, or 112 Silicone Grease AFTER verifying proper operation!

It sounds like an arduous task, I know, but the rewards will be many ... paint restoration won't be simple, either!

Good advice...I've been a victim of an engine fire before!

Just did the magnet test (duh!) and it's just a steel decklid. And I just discovered that it doesn't have S brakes!!! Who would order their 911 with these goodies and skip the brakes? Strange...

Congratulations. Should be a fun project.

My '73E 'barn find' was a 'driveway find' for $2800... with a priming shot of gas, it started and ran beautifully after 6 years of storage. No smoke (after the first 40-50 minutes) and never a drop of oil on the floor... Still ended up spending about $9K on it.

Lordy, Lordy. Red over green. Haven't seen that since.....about a hour ago out back.

We need to meet up. Start a support group or something. You have a bunch of money that you don't know what to do with (or did), just like me (especially the 'or did' part).

One item to add to the bottom of Warren's list before starting;

Change the oil and filter. Then remove the plugs and crank the engine on the starter until oil-pressure registers on the gauge (I assume that you have S instruments) or the oil pressure light goes out.

Then install new spark plugs and start her up.

(PS: Guys like you make me sick!!! ) in a good way!

Very cool find!

You will have to pay PCNA to get the build list for your car...I think it's about $90. No free Cardex like other manufacturers.

I'd like to add to the Fresh fuel advice, Drain the old stuff out first . Be thankful you have the plastic tank as many have had chronic fuel delivery problems with rusted steel tank interiors.

Thanks for the MFI advice.

I've already researched the "starting a long-stored engine" threads, so I think I'm pretty prepared for that, but thanks for the advice.

Does anybody know the answers to the Euro equipment question (#5)?

5. Euro cars had black grills and signal trim but had chrome bumper guards. Basically they were like the US car but with chrome bumper guards and H4's instead of sealed beam headlights. Also the speedo was KPH.

P.S. I just remembered that some of the 73' euro cars had the chrome type bumper guards but they were painted black. They however didn't come with the the big rubber guards.

Some "after pics". Larry's '73 Viper Green 911E was repainted red too before it was restored to this level, so it is definitely an inspiration for me! What got into everybody's head in the 80s to repaint these things guards red?

The same thing I guess that made them think painting them white with black out trim was cool.

Here's an "after" shot of my Signal Orange 71'S that's now a "before" shot since I'm taking it back to the future "Signal Orange".
