Kevin / Stef....
Your points are well taken. My first mistake: I should have taken one of the other front wheel cars but out of habit, I jumped into the 911 and off I went. Too late to snap into reality as I was 2 miles down the road. If the 911 was the year around (winter) daily driver, you can bet I would invest in rims and snows. When I lived in Chicago I had a 914 with all seasons for winter driving and boy was that real fun with mid engine stability. I wish I had kept that car. Thanks

It sounds like you are lucky to have made it home unscathed. I can second the fact that today was one of those days that makes for challenging driving - a portion of 95 South was closed earlier because of a serious accident with many others throughout the region; yet as you noted we didn't get much accumulation.

You are correct. Lots of fender benders. Apparantly (I can verify) the snow accumulation was not that much but ithe temps were cold and the snow froze on the streets causing icy conditions. It was very deceptive until it was too late. The 911 gave an early enough warning to have me slow down to a crawl....
My driveway has an incline and to get to the garage I had to drive up the lawn.

I did end up adjusting the valves but it was two weeks later. The parts were delayed and then had to be returned for the correct valve cover iwas replacing. I didn't want to hang anyone up waiting.
NEXT time I'll acquire the parts and THEN post for the party. Thanks for asking.

Anyway, glad you made it. Didn't mean to jump on my soapbox back there. Tires are just one of my favourite religous topics.
For instance I would have liked to explain to the moron that rear-ended me last night that the reason she slid into me was likely that her all seasons didn't have enough tread left to have traction in the snow and that her all wheel drive helps little under braking. As it was, I restricted my lesson to how ABS works and why it's a bad idea to get off the brakes when they're pulsing and use the parking brake to attempt to stop the car. DUH, DUH, DUH!!!! I think the car's ok - need to check in daylight. M3 with Dunlop Wintersport M2s. The 911 is sitting under a car cover and 4" of snow. Stef |

To reinforce the points made here.....
High performance tires are bad for snow/ice , not only for their width....but the rubber compound used for hi-per tires are extremely different and unforgiving in cold weather operation. Almost ZERO traction...you'd be amazed at the incremental improvement you'd have with: - same size all season tires - same size winter tires - narrower winter tires Wil
