Help on Cab Top Down Instructions

I reprint here from my 1984 Cab owner's guide on putting top down. I don't follow the wording on #5. "Push top toward the rear" (okay, simple enough) but "press down firmly until safety latches for roof frame linkage are engaged"? Press down where? What safety latches? Engaged? The only "safety latches" I know of are at the top end of the roof and connect to the windshield frame when putting the roof UP. How do latches "engage" when you're putting DOWN the roof?

I'm exasperated because I bungled my last top down and creased the canvas badly. Any tips?

The way I do it is unzip the rear window, unlatch the machanisms that holds the front portion to the windshield frame, and carefully fold the top back making sure that the cross member folds within the creases of the top.

I hope that helps, David

I believe the safety latches they are talking about are the 2 pins that are about midway on the frame, they protrude from the frame, and when the top is folded, they go into a couple of holes in the folded frame rail, to lock it inplace.

Thanks, gentlemen. The tricky part for me is when corner canvas area at the edge of the plastic folds in around the frame. In any case the manual is not well-written.
