Fuchs Fit, Spacers etc. for 930
Many posts on this subject but non answered what I need to know! My 87 930 has some 17" twists on it and I am thinking about changing back to stock 16" (8 and 9) or (7 and 9) Fuchs; whatever was stock for a 930 from '86-'89.
From the picture can anybody tell wether these spacers will need to be changed to fit stock Fuchs. The spacer is about 1" thick. Picture is of the front. If indeed the spacer has to be changed for something else will I need to switch out different length studs? The rear has a slightly thicker spacer as well. ![]()

Is there a spacer in the picture? It looks like just the hub to me. As far as I know, the original fuchs on 930's had no spacer on the front and about 1.25" in the back. At least that is what I recall being told.

Yeah, I don't see a spacer in the pic, either.
As I recall, by 1987 the 930 did NOT come with a separate spacer on the front. Did have separate spacers on the rear, though. |

It looks like those spacers use longer studs. If thats the case, they will need to be changed or cut to the correct legnth. The factory used 7x16 with no spacer in the front and 9x16 in the rear with a 25mm spacer. I have a couple pairs of the factory rear spacers if you need them or if you want photos.
I'm seeing the hub and what looks like a star type spacer. If that's not a star spacer and the wheel is the correct backspace for the car, the studs should be OK. Are they factory twists? If they are I'm pretty sure they do need a spacer. Last edited by steve930t; 01-20-2005 at 01:43 PM.. |

Is the part marked with the yellow bracket not considered a spacer? It is definately a seperate piece which slips over the lugs.

Never worked on a 930 before but my SC has the rotor bolted to a hub and it all looks exactly like that. If you look inside the hub you should see some little bolts.

Yep, Steve is right, thats the hub. I think the darker area I have bracketed in red is a spacer. I have 996TT twists on mine and had to have about 1" spacer.

All you have to do is to remove the wheel and see if the spacer is there, as a separate piece between the hub and the wheel flange. Older 930s have spacers front and rear. Yours suppose to have only on the rear because the front hub is thicker.

Thanks all. Actually the darker piece is part of the wheel. Does that mean that these are aftermarket wheels not genuine Porsche?

I'm not sure of the offsets on those twists compared to mine. I think they also had turbo and non-turbo offsets for those twists too. You may have non-turbo offset wheels. Just some thoughts.

Another way is to measure the backspacing of the wheels you have on and compare them to the fuchs. That will tell you what you need. Food for thoughts

If they are porsche, they'll have the offset stamped on the rims somewhere.

Majic,
The stock wheel set up on the 87 911 Turbo are: 7jx16's Front. 23.3mm Offset 9jx16's Rear. 911 Turbos came factory with 2" spacers Front - "Bolt on's" and 1" Spacers Rear "Slide on's" As the guys are mentioning as your Hub, this a 2" stock Hub Centric spacer Front. Remove the wheels and the 1" spacer. You will need an impact gun, or someone to sit in the car to hold the brakes with a rachet. I have not seen pictures of the rear wheels, So I can not give advise on those. To space the newer wheels you have 1" Front and 2" Rear - However for the rear, you simply remove the stock 1" spacer and replace it with a 3" spacer, Bolt on - Hub Centric. Please feel free to email me if you need any assistence! Thank you, Jason |
