Sport Seats

The factory Sport seats in my Carrera have good leather surfaces but the padding seems to be pretty flat. Maybe the PO was more generously proportioned than me.

Can you repalce the foam? Is it a DIY deal? Any suggestions - did a search but couldn't really find what I needed.

Thanks

You can buy the cushions separately but they are expensive. The cushions for my standard non-sport seats were around $250 for the bottom cushion and the same for the back cushion. I understand from World Upholstery that the only source is from Porsche.

You may want to also check with Pelican to see if they can also get them, or you can just contact the dealer directly. That is unless someone knows of an aftemarket option.

This sounds like the kind of thing that an auto upolstery shop could well, and for cheap.

Maybe a foolish idea but after watching the bike and hot rod fabrication shows it seems that one could replicate the original "cushions" with some foam from an auto upholtery supply outlet and use an electric (meat) carving knife to shape.

(How's that for a run on sentence? )

I like the hotrod meat carving route - I'll post pics of both pre and post butchering.

I have done this...the meat carving knife ($!%) works great!

Go to a foam place...there are TONS of densities and types.....helps to touch/feel.

I checked with World upholstery and they want $ 300 for a piece of foam!! guess that is why they were so cheerful on the phone. At those rates I'm thinking of parting out my bed. It sounds a little like the $ 500 hood badge we saw floating around recently.

rebuilding the foam in your seats is something a good upholstery shop should be able to do for a lot less money then replacing the foam, I've seen a lot seats in all kinds of conditions but after a good upholsterer gets done with them they should look and feel like new.

How about the expanding foam that comes in a can? You can get it at Home Depot. You don't even have to pull the leather off - just find a hole and spray it in there!

jorian,

As Mike and Sam mentioned, take it to an upholstery Shop. It gets tricky removing the leather and re-installing the leather. Taking the top half of the seat off etc.

They have to replace or add to the bottom cushions/padding.

With my experience with Leather Sport Seats, they are all flat. However when you take that 45mph turn at 90mph, those big bolsters suck you in!

They are wonderfully effective in securing you in - Nice and Tight!
