Nagyszalanczy, Sandor. 2000. Setting Up Shop: The Practical Guide to Designing and Building Your Dream Shop. Taunton Press. Newtown, CT.
- intended for woodworkers but has lots of good advice re lighting, electric runs, workflow layout and ventilation -- better than the only book I found on setting up a mechanics shop, tho community college tech. school textbooks might be a good source also

My God,

Just a few minutes ago we were discussing Csaba Csere (in the Off-topic Forum) and the Hungarian language, and now we have Mr. Nagyszalaczy as the author of this very important tome.

Will these Hungarians never cease to amaze us?

And notice that the letters "nagy" appear in his name, and my last name is Nagy, and why is that? What does it all mean? Is there really a God? Who or what created the Universe? How DO you pronouce "Porsche"?

Wow, the metaphysical implications of it all!!!!!

I'm looking for a book to help me come up with ideas for my tiny 2-car garage.

Hi Jack,

Hire an architect!

We have lots of good ideas, and for a fellow Pelicanite, we might also offer services in exchange for used AutoX tires, used WUR, etc.

And if you hire an Hungarian architect, we'll also throw in some free Hungarian lessons, and then you'll be able to converse with Mika Hakinnen, Mika Salo, Szolt Baumgartner (of F1 fame, or infame, as the case might be), and then you'll really be well-rounded.

I have the 'Your Garagenous Zone: Innovative Ideas For The Garage' by Bill West. He lives right here in Ft.Collins,CO and actually had an 'open garage' day at his house for the whole community. Lots of good ideas, diagrams, and contact info for some of the flooring and cabinet companies he mentions in his book. Highly recommend, but I have not seen the others.

- It means these guys are using up and wasting too many of our precious consonants. There is a crisis looming, and in just a few years, we will be going thru a serious consonant shortage. We need immediate legislation now to restrict the over-use of consonants, and people with too many consonants in their names should donate some to the less fortunate -- often in other countries, such as Africa, Asia and Asia Minor.

I ordered all three books, and like them all. At first glance, I think Richard Newton's 'Ultimate Garage Handbook' would be the one to get if you just got one book.

He may not be Hungarian, however, which is admittedly a drawback.

Great sense of humor, even though you're not a Hungarian.

Now let's see, Olsen could be Irish (though it would have been one of the Germanic names, had it been Olsson), and we do know that there have been a number of great Irish authors (though they probably didn't own Porsches), and thus couldn't write one more book on ultimate garages.

And that reminds me of the ditzzy blond, who upon asking if there was any handy-man(woman) type work to be done, was asked to quote on painting the porch out back,.............

But I digress.

To further the digression, I was at a dinner and show in Stockholm a few weeks ago (there's a hint about the Olsen name, although it's been Americanized), and I had the waiter take a picture of my wife and I. Next to us was a man who saw that he was in the background of our picture. He told us he liked to collect pictures that he accidentally appeared in, and gave me a business card so I could email him a copy of the picture.

The card indicated he worked for the Hungarian embassy. I emailed him the picture, but -- being a writer -- I did so with a flash of worry that if this were a plot in a movie, I was going to be killed for having accidentally photographed a spy.

Fortunately, he let me live. I guess spies who need to keep their identities secret don't go to hotel dinner shows.

Back on topic, I'm just adding some cabinets, a workbench, electric and air lines, and some other storage in order to clean things up in what I think I can claim to be the messiest garage on this board.

Hi Jack, since you didn't ask, here's the story of the ditzzy blond:

There once was a ditzzy blond who needed some part time work to tide her over. So she went door to door, asking if there was anything she could do. One man asked her if she was able to paint. She said yes, she's a good painter.

So he said, great, there a porch out bacl that needs painting. Here's a bucket of paint and a brush, come see me when you're done.

She she disappears out back.

An hour later she comes back and says " I'm done now and I hope you like it. But, by the way, that isn't a porch, it's a BMW".

Notice the Porsche content, for this BBS!!!!!!
