Grr - gotta use the P-car and batt is dead
As it says - haven't driven the 911 in 3+ weeks and now I'm rushing to get to Inverness for dinner and the battery is dead. Putting it on a 10 amp charger and I guess it's patience time. Serves me right for neglecting her. And for forgetting to use the batt cutoff switch I so thoughtfully installed.
Just venting.

This is a sign that you should drive your car more often

Same thing happened to me last week - I realized I haven't driven the 911 since before Thanksgiving!

Yeah, I've heard that the "new" cars drain batteries fast.

John that's exactly why I put a battery cut-off in on my cars too. During the summer its not unusual for me to be gone for 2-3 weeks, get one day off, then have to work for another 2-3 weeks. I was tired of having to charge the batteries on that one day off, so I installed the cut-off.

If you have 3 week stretches (like I do) you need to have a Battery Tender (or something similar).

Lesson learned.
Battery is of indeterminate age - like me :-) Had a great drive - took Lucas Valley Road then Pt-Reyes-Petaluma road out to our friends' huge ramshackle old house in Inverness. Dark foggy night but I got there from Berkeley in <1 hour. This morning, drove back starting 8 AM, detoured up to Tomales. Light was beautiful, that slanting morning light through the coastal hills. Took a lot of pictures along the way, interspersed with spirited driving through the twisties. A couple schizophrenic moments of downshifting into a tight turn and then suddenly seeing a striking image and diving for a turnoff while reaching for the camera - not so wise but everything stayed ship-shape. Was a nice morning of alternating between Porsche and Nikon. Picked up a Nikkor 24mm f2.8 AIS for $100 at the Hayward camera swap later in the morning, took a great long nap in the afternoon, and some friends dropped by for an impromptu dinner and some wine. A nice day.

I had exactly the same problem yesterday!
First "non-raining day" for weeks - went to start the 911 - nothing!!! Forget to use the battery cut-off after the last "non-raining day" spin - it rains alot in Ireland! Eventually got out after lunch - always makes me smile! Why do our batterys go flat even if the alarm is not activated? |
