Dilemma, should I use old CV joint or new CV joint?

Here's the situation:

1. Old CV joint, works, steel balls good, but channels where the balls ride have some grooves in several of the channels. But this old one seems to have longer channels than new, because it's 1969 size.

2. New CV joint, smaller in width by .80 mm, but will still fit on the inboard. Ball channels new, but apparently not as long since the new CV is smaller in width. New CV fits but the bolts I have will stick out the other end.

Any comments welcome. Thank you.
