clunking sound at autocross
Here is the situation. I've gotten a rear clunking sound during some hard turns at the autocross events. It only happens sometimes and sounds like it might be from the passenger side, but I'm not completely sure. I just had bilstien H/D shocks put on the car. The rear sway bar mounts look good. One has been updated to the butterfly brace and the other is stock. It shows no sign of cracks. The sway bar bushings also look good. With the new shocks at yesterdays event I am still getting that clunking sound sometimes. Does anyone have any sugestions at what to look for? thanks

CV joint going bad.

Kurt, thanks for the suggestion. I did look thru my service records. The P.O. had the rear axle assembly replaced 10k miles ago. The clunk only happens during hard turning when pushing the car. It has never happened during street driving. It is definitely a clunk and not a click.

It could be a bad bushing on your sway bar. Just double check everything.

eye ball your alignment. I had an adjustment come loose. It was not easy to tell, only moved under heavy loading. try putting a wrench on the camber and tow adjustment. I also had a clunk when one of my lower schock bolts backed out a little (I had forgoten to tighten it- dooh.)

I bet one of the swaybar mounts has broken. Happened to me at autocrosses, 2 times. Once for each side.
