Help with tire size for 16x6 Fuchs......
I have no idea what was stock on a 1978 Euro 911SC, and I don't know that it matters. I have a set of 4 16x6 Fuchs rims. But I observe that the 205 and 225 x 55 or 60 or something Michelin tires are worthless in snow and a hazard in the wet. Not sure of the model of the tires because it's having a new clutch and tranny rebuild but is due back any day.
Putting aside snow issues for which I think (thanks to the Pelican board lurkers) I really need a separate set of tires, what size and brand tire front and rear will give reasonable 3 season street sport performance while also offering the most utility and safety. For example I drove the car home along I-80 last summer from Des Moines to Omaha in a torrential downpour and was white knuckle scared that my car and I would hydroplane into the ditch even at 25mph. Love the car and drive it every day save for snow but need a different tire approach to give it a more every day sort of utility. Do I really need wider tires in the rear? And if so how much wider? Chassis has been lowered with bump steer so what tire height is good without endangering the rims? So throw all your suggestions out. I am greatly appreciative. ![]() |

max size on 6" is 205/55, I think.
Bridgestone S-03 are great. Great in the rain thru the whole wear of the tires. I've never had them in the snow. It's wider than other styles or mfg. My car rode 1/4" higher. They last 20k mi of straight interstate averging 70-80mph for a baseline.

On your 16x6's the front should be 205x55x16.
The rear rim should be 16x7 running 225x50x16. S03's are are great on the dry and wet surfaces but horrible in the slightest snow fall. In fact, they should be against the law to go out in the snow with those tires. See if you possible swap 2 of the 6's for a set of 7's +$$ for your rear.

Yes, for a '78 you should definitely have wider rear wheels than front wheels.
The Fuchs option was as kqw stated 16x6 and 16x7 with 205 55 on the 6 and 225 50 on the 7. Without that extra inch of tire and wheel in the rear you are going to look like a Pro Rally driver in the snow hanging the back end out all over the place.

Try Goodyear Ultragrip or Ultragrip Ice....incredible foul weather performance...simply amazing.
Likely that tires like Bridgestone Blizzaks do the same thing.... Yep.... dry weather performance tires are absolutely the pits in foul/cold weather. Not only is the tread pattern wrong...the rubber compound will not work below ( say) 40 degreesF. Like hard linoleum.. Wil
