where's a good place for the air compressor?

I recently cleaned out the trunk and got rid of the old dirty carpet. After putting everything back in, it dawned on me that I shouldn't have to drive around with the air compressor banging around loose in the trunk anymore. Where are these things supposed to go? It seems like they oughta have a special place with retaining straps or something. I'd rather not put it on the floor behind the seat. Where do you guys have yours? It's too big to tuck in front of the spare tire.

Cool Compressor location.....

I have the tire compressor mounted to the front of the cardboard firewall cover. I cut two small slots in the carpet and use a short bungee cord with the ends hooked over the top and bottom right side metal bracket that supports the cardboard.

Maybe this will give you some ideas!

Fred,
That is far too simple!! Surely someone makes a $1200 aircraft aluminum alloy billet, CNC'd , lightweight, anodized, racing, titanium, carbon-fiber, powder coated, RS, compressor retention unit.

Fred, that's exactly what I thought of doing earlier. But still, I wonder where Porsche intended for it to live, and where it was when the car was first delivered. I can't imagine Porsche intended for it to just bounce around free inside the trunk of a $40k sports car (1986 dollars).

That's exactly what they did. The case was just place in the trunk.

In my 964 it fit inside the spare tire, which was mounted dish-up.

Fred, that's a very cool, low tech fix. I like it.

If you subscribe to the KISS method (Keep It Simple, Stupid) then just place it between the brake fluid reservoir and the fender. There is a nice "depression" there, that will accommodate the OEM air compressor that came with my car (different than the one in your photos), and which will restrain it during "normal" driving.

You would have to remove it at the track anyway, so this KISS location makes perfect sense.
