when is it safe to drive in areas where the roads are salted
Should I wait until after the first big rain storm to be sure all the road salt is off the roads.

Since your '81 is from the age of galvanized cars, I would drive it and treat it to a good wash afterward! Yea Spring!

Yeah a good wash. I plan to wash mine next month (April) I think.
Hopefully the garden hoses will be thawed by then.... Too cold to wash in the winter and then it just gets dirty again real fast anyway... ![]()

Just wash it. I had mine out this morning for a spirited ride to Newmarket & back. All the roads were dry & most were clean of grit & salt (but not all).

If you are sufficiently paranoid, you could take a sample of the water on the pavement and test it for % salt.
Or just drive the car...
