First I ordered a Momo wheel from Pelican for my S. It was placed on back order. Thats fine, its been a few weeks and still waiting.
Then, I ordered a bunch of parts to finish up the tuneup/carb rebuild I have been doing. Today I get an email that all the parts ordered are on back order. It states the same thing as the first: There will be a couple delay in the order and I may cancel if I wish. Is this common? ![]()

I have ordered several times, and only once was an item on backorder.
I'm thrilled with the customer service here. |

The only time I have had delays was when buying specialized tools.
All other orders were shipped quicky. I'd say your delays are not typical of PP. Whenever I need something in a hurry I place the order over the phone instead of on the internet. That give me a chance to ask the sales representative if the parts are in stock, or how long it will take to get them. Pelican can't stock every single item in their catalog and still be able to provide decent pricing, inventory costs money. Some items they have to outsource, those are the ones that may be subject to back order because they have to rely on a third party's commitment. |

I've ordered with PP probably 10 times and probably 2000 worth and, I think, only had 1 item backordered, and it was a really weird item.

I live near a WorldPac distributor and as such, my local wrench gets sameday service for all the common maintenance and repair items. So I usually only use Pelican for the stuff that draws blank, slack-jawed stares from my local guy.
They almost always are able to get the items quickly. This week's latest obscure parts order that Pelican shipped last night: OEM rubber inserts for the rear bumper 'S' trim on a '72 911.

I have been having lots of backordred on my orders as well and have to wait a few weeks.
I live in Ca. which normally only takes 2 days to get an item. Many times they they do not ship out till a week or more later. Maybe they just do not have many of the items in stock and have to order them as they they get ordered. |

The really weird thing is:
All the parts I have ordered from M.M. have arrived on time and of good quality. I just hate to cancel my orders and hunt down all this stuff elsewhere. By the way jtkkz most of the parts are for my 71' 2.2T

Lacy,
I first off would like to apologize for the delay of your order, this is not customary (as many have posted on this thread). We strive to provide great service to our customers; it’s one of the things that have helped us stand out from the rest. Unfortunately there was an error in the way your order was checked in to process on our end. I apologize for what seems to be a human error on our end this time; it’s a reality we have to face in every line of business. Like I said we strive to provide for superior service and I hope you truly understand. In addition we have waived the $14.50 in shipping charges and additionally upgraded your order to 3-Day Air at no added expense to you. If there is anything in addition that you feel we need to look into now or in the future please don’t hesitate to contact our customer service team for assistance. We’d appreciate the opportunity to make things right before finding out about them on the board. Thank you in advance for your continued support and for those who have provided their input as well. Sincerely, Eli Sesma General Manager Pelican Parts Inc. |

See if you can ever get anyone at MM when they screw up your parts order. Nice job Eli!

I have found that the estimated delivery time calculator at the time of online checkout is within a day or two of the time I recieve the parts. The minimum amount of time it has taken an order to get to me is approximately 2 weeks and I'm in the same state, the estimated delivery calculator has been nearly spot-on every time.

I am saddened that our host was not given an opportunity to "fix the order" before the original post of this thread.

Although I've said it many times in the past, I'll say it again. We stive to be your only source for parts and accessores. As such, we carry in our catalog, many, many, many special order items that may have to be shipped here - sometimes from Germany! It's this attention to the hard-to-find parts that provides our customer with the service and support they are looking for. Sure, I can jettison all of that special-order stuff from the catalog, and ship everyone's order within a day. But that's not what I built this business on, and that's not what we strive to be. We're not a pump-and-dump outfit like others out there...

I'm amazed by the amount of times people post here wanting to know where to find quite normal porsche parts. Do they not know who hosts this board. Maybe you need a bigger pelican wayne!

Some years ago I did wait four or so weeks PP order to arrive, which was no issue, really.
Recently I placed an order for four 993 rubber brake lines. Glad to say they arrived in a few days, like predicted by their shipping estimator. Good Job! Chris |

backdating of orders can be a fact of life, most companies can not afford to keep an unlimited supply of inventory, especially for cars that are +- 30 years old.
Ordered a trunk carpet set last Nov, it arrived yesterday Ordered gasket sets beginning of Jan and were backdated also, however they arrived last week. The forum features are more important than shipment dates as far as I am concerned. |
