Sorry, am new at this whole thing. The only test that I know of regarding a cylinder is a compression test.

In any case, now I understand the original suggestion.

Another easier way to check which cylinder is misfiring is to pull all ht leads from the cap and just rest them in place.
Now start engine and use plastic pliers to pull leads away from cap one at a time. The misfiring cylinder will be the one that makes no difference. You dont strictly need insulated pliers - once the lead is away from the cap you can't get a shock.

You should be able to find an inductive ignition tester. It looks much like a pencil with a small light built into the body. Simply hold the end near each plugwire and watch to see if the bulb lights momentarily. Its a lot easier on the ignition system, the plug wires and the human bod! I have had one for several years and don't remember it being too expensive.
