Porsche 911SC Driveshaft Verification
Can someone 'visually' verify that these are the axles drive shafts for a 1981 911SC? Pelican Parts does not show a picture of the the Jan 1975- early 85 models which mine falls under and the picture (on Pelican) for the late 1985-89 models appear to be quite different.

Are there bands around the small boot end, with chipped black paint on them?

Looks right to me, it has six holes through the CV?

The flange attached to the boot has little triangles of metal around it that aren't on the earlier boot/flange assembly. Perhaps this is due to the GKN acquisition.

Is there any difference between the inboard and outboard part of the shaft? Six holes through the flange on both ends. It looks to be symmetrical to me though one side does have what appears to be some 'over-spray' black paint on the flange end (maybe this is what no substitute was referring to?) Upon further examination, one end of the CV cage looks to be protruding 3/8" longer than the other side so there is indeed a difference between the inboard and outboard but which one is which?

There is no difference in the ends. The outer race moves axially to accomodate the shortening of the axle length as the suspension travels up and down, so they may appear different.
YOu might say it is the right one if it fits. |

You are good to go w/ those joints. Make sure to use new bolts, serrated locking washers, and torque to 30 ft lbs. Re-check torque after a couple hundred miles.
