Do I have cruise control??

not that its a huge deal, but i cant figure out if i have cruise control. the lever is there that would be the control, and while the sticker showing how to use it isnt there, there is a faded area where it would be that would suggest that it was once. i have played with the lever when i'm driving but nothing happens, so how do i figure out if i have it or not? i know there must be some type of control unit somewhere but i'm not really sure where to look, can anyone help me out, this should be an easy question for the guru's...thanks in advanced.

What year is your car? On 911SC cars, there is a servo unit on the left side under the hood w/ a cable going to the throttle linkage. It's pretty easy to see w/ the hood open, maybe take a picture of your motor and we can tell you if it's there.

You can clearly see the cable for the CC in this shot going to the throttle, (over the air cleaner snout):

Not sure if this applies to your 79SC but, a good place to start is the brake switch. It is located directly to the right of the gas pedal, inside the center tunnel. There is a lever that extends from the brake peddle shaft that operates the switch. The switch is mounted on a bracket with a screw that can come loose or slip. It needs to be adjusted so the lever just contacts the switch. It should break the switch contact with a small movement of the brake pedal. Use a meter to check. This was the problem with my cruise control. I think I had to remove the floorboard and gas pedal to get to the switch.

I also read somewhere on the board that a burned out brake light (including the center light) can cause cruise control problems.

Good Luck
Andrew

It's probably broken, I spent more time and money trying to keep that working than almost anything else. They are very finicky and even when working right don't work right.

If it is the same as the Carrera, the lever should be pushed "up" (towards 12 o'clock) to set/accel. "down" (towards 6 o'clock) to reset/coast, and pulled towards you to cancel.

These cruise controls aren't very smooth anyway. Kinda jerky when engaged. I personally never use mine. I'm too busy playing with the Go pedal and cruise control would take away half my fun.

Mine worked flawlessly, I used it when cops were around and I had to stay @ speed limit, etc..

It's a wonderful thing to have on a roadtrip, and obviously not something that is used in sporting situations.

Looks like Venetian Blue to me.

tdatk: yep, try the lever closest to the dash on the right side of the steering wheel. Not sure if the 82 SC has it, tho.

Would a 1976 911 with a 1979 SC engine in it have cruise control? When did Porsche first add cruise control?

Thanks

My guess would be if you have a lever behind the wiper lever, you have cruise control.

Sorry for the delay there. My car (was) Pacific Blue, it was the Metallic Blue offered in 1981 and 1982. In 1983 Slate Blue came along, (until 1984 M.Y.), and before my color was Petrol Blue, from 1978 to 1980. Not really sure abouyt that Venetian Blue, I know that it is refered to as the 1987-88 metallic Blue, but the charts list it as "Ocean Blue". Then in 1989, along came Baltic Blue, which is tied w/ my old color for prettiest Metallic Blue.

Can you tell that I'm big on Porsche's Metallic Blues?

They have always offered one medium Metallic Blue at a time, going back to early '70s Gemini Blue, w/ Minerva Blue in the mid-'70s. The worst one was '85-'86 Prussian Blue, sort of a purple-ish color. (Apologies in advance to anyone reading w/ that color).

Here is my old car, which definitely photographed differently depending on light:

again - sorry for the hijack.

Mine isn't quite the same. I have an 80. I think mine might be Petrol. It is purplish in certain lights but slightly darker blue than yours in most. I love it and get lots of compliments.

Here is a picture after my recent accident.

BTW - My 80 SC has cruise control.
