Jammed sunroof help!

Hi guys,

My sunroof has jammed in the closed position. The motors are all working fine. When i hit the switch, it moves about an inch then jams. As you guys know, when you open the roof, the back of the sunroof dips down, and then slides backwards. Right now, the left side dips, but the right side doesn't, which prevents it from sliding back.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Adam

Garage
Adam,
I had a very similar problem. It sounds to me that the cable has come loose from the side that will not go down.

Check out Waynes Tech article:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_sunroof_repair/911_sunroof_repair.htm

I have found that in this situation than if you retract it as much as possible then push down lightly and back, on the top of the side that is not retracting you can get it to "pop" down. Dont force things there is some plastic parts in there.

If i is the cable and the end has pulled out of the soft metal part that attaches it to the sun roof, then you can re insert it and "stake" it back inplace with a small punch, you couls also use a small dab of epoxy for good measure.

Good luck, it is a frustrating job, but you will really learnd how the sunroof works!

Sounds like a classic case of cable failure to me. The cables pull out of the brackets they are crimped into. Some have been successfull in repairing by reattaching the cables. I opted to replace mine as I was not convinced a repair would hold up.

Check out the Host's Tech article.

You may also find some helpfull info here.

Good luck!
