A-Arms
I have a pair of A-arms in the garage that I'm thinking about refinishing for my 77. Before I do so, however, I need to know exactly which years they fit. Usually that is easy enough - but I don't see any part numbers on these.
Can anybody tell me where to look for part numbers, or how to tell which years they fit? What are the identifying features/marks I should look for?

look at the ball joints & the distance between holes for the caliper mounts. search those terms for the years/models where they differ

Thanks Randy. I'm not asking about struts, though. I need similar details on the a-arms.

Any a-arm should fit a 77 no? You'll want updated ball joints as Randy discussed but if you have a 77 and you have a-arms in the garage, you should have something that will bolt on.

Those arms are correct for all cars 74-89. They can be used on cars 69-73, though they need to have the early style sway bar mounts welded on. They can also be used on 68, but require late style ball joints in addition to the sway bar mounts. They can also be used on cars 65-67, but will need to use a later style crossmember, in addition to ball joints, and in addition to the sway bar mod.

Thanks team. I went out to get new batteries for the digital.
So if I read correctly, these will fit 74 to 89, but also have tabs to fit 69 to 73? ![]()

I don't think we know what year the arms are... we know they're going on a 77 though.

Now we know they're pre 74
![]() Those should bolt right on. No problem. Do you have a through body sway bar upgrade on the 77?

Those arms are 69-73 variety. They have the early style sway bar mounts.
If you convert your 77 to through-body sway bar, you are all set. If you keep the original, you'll need to change out those mounts. Better yet, find someone who wants to swap you.

I'd convert to a through body bar at this time... better geometry and more options.

Excellent. Thanks for the help. I'll crawl under the car with a light and see what else is up there. Honestly I don't know what sway set-up it has. The front end is a little close to the ground right now - I'm installing the engine and have the back up in the air.
Thanks again for the help, though. I'll take the through-body under advisement.

I had a stock 74 and my stock 77 both have those exact a-arms so what are the odds that they back dated both of my cars a-arms ???

Ben,
The odds are pretty good based on Porsche switching to underbody sway-bars in 1974. The 1976 930 (76 only) still had a through body bar and it was 18mm. Nice bar for early cars if you can find them. Many people welded on the u-tabs and converted back to through body as those were the only bars that offered upgrades at the time. 74-77 probably came with 18mm under-body bars. I have a spare 20mm under-body bar if anyone wants it cheeeeeap.

Hey Ray - would you like to put those on a scale at UPS and report the weight?
