I've run into a problem with the doorlock in my car, unfortunately, my own fault. It won't be the first time and probably not the last. I am confident that I can fix the problem by systematically going through the circuitry, testing each component as I go, although, that will be quite time consuming. I hope that someone on the board will have some insight that gives a shortcut.
I've had the new car 1 month (87 TL targa). The car has central locking. It came with a radio remote that the previous owner did not know what it was for. So today, I pull the carpet out of the luggage boot and find a "brain box" wired into the harness that seems professionally done. The box is grey, about 4x4, says "Micro Made in U.S.A." Model 7002 is listed on a paper sticker on the outside. Inside is a typical small circuit board with 4 dip switches. All are on. The box has a 14 prong plug that is obviously not connected. Figuring I can do no real harm (famous last thoughts), I plug it in. The following transpires: Doorlocks go up-down-up-down 5-6 times, then stop. I hit the button on the remote and they try to go up, but do not. I try the other button. A strange, barely audible warbling sound comes from the horn. Or maybe from a hidden loudspeaker I did not find. This persists for 8-10 seconds, then stops. I fiddle with it for a little longer, pushing the buttons on the remote transmitter, wiggling the wires on the box. The doorlocks go up and down maybe twice more, then nothing happens, so I unplug the box. Total time plugged in, about 2-3 minutes. Both doors are locked, so I take the key and try to unlock the driver's door. It turns to the right (lock), but stops at vertical when attempting to turn to the left. The pass. door unlocks, but not the drivers door. I climb in through the pass door. The manual doorlock knob is frozen. By wiggling the key in the door and the manual knob at the same time, I finally get the drivers door to unlock (excessive force was not used). The situation right now: Drivers door will not lock or unlock with the key (not even a clicking sound in the door), but both doors will lock/unlock the pass door. The problem is, the pass. door unlocks itself about 1 second after being locked with the key. Both doors can be locked or unlocked manually from the inside. Neither door works from the central locking button on the console. (central locking worked just fine prior to today). Did I fry a solenoid? Is there just a hidden reset button I need to find (I wish)? I could not find "Micro electronic doorlocks" on Google. Any thoughts would be appreciated. |

Did a search on the BBS. Seems central doorlocks can be problematic, but no clearcut solutions.
All fuses are OK. Took the covers off the back of the boot. Found a motion sensor; so it seems the car has a disconnected alarm. I guess that's part of t he thrill of a "pre-owned" car. As this icar is new to me, I have not had time to buy manuals yet. Could someone email me or post the schematic for the central locking system? I'de really appreciate it. Thanks, W.
