When shifting into reverse sometimes nothing happens, its like the shifter is in neutral, I have to go into first gear and then back into reverse so that it will engage.
Any help on why this happens is appreciated. |

normal. reverse is not syncronized, and often the gears that need to mesh together, meet tooth to tooth when you try to engage them, rather than tooth to notch. (one gear slides sideways into the other gear, and they're straight cut gears). so you have to either let the car roll an inch or so, or let the cluch out for a moment to rotate the shaft and try again.

There is no syncro to replace for reverse. That is what John is saying. So it is just a trait of this tranny.
Sometimes it actually works better to shiift into 1st and then to reverse. It is just a quirky tranny. ![]()
