Careful where you park your P-car !

A friend of mine just found out the hard way that you have to look for potential threats right, left *and UP*

So he parks his $100,000 C4s (as priced new) outside in the cold icy snow....next to a withering shack, with severly bent awnings... thats probably worth about as much as the car.

Irresponsible Porsche ownership going on there. He seems better suited for a 6 year old Accord, and spend the rest of the car money fixing up the crib.

Sonic,

I agree! The garage was just in the back! mmm, Park it in the garage!

For whatever circumstance, sad to see this gorgeous Porsche severely damage, it could have been prevented!

Don't you mean 16 yr old Accord?

Would that be a car insurance claim or homeowners?

Good thing nobody was standing under the ice when it fell. That would have been a mess.

That is horribly painful. Hopefully it can be repaired. It is definitely time for a bigger garage.

Cars are replaceable, (especially that one), and I'm guessing that it was insured. Good thing he wasn't standing next to it, he might have been killed.

I'm always ready to give out Darwin awards for stupidity, but that is not something that I would be expecting, and I am from a cold, snowy place. I have never seen ice blocks that thick fall off a roof, in fact I've never seen a car damaged by ice blocks like that. And I've seen a lot of kooky schit in my day.

That car is about the most beautiful, (and functional), 996 that I can imagine, and on second look it is not hurt as bad as it looks. New Porsches are built more like Japanese cars, w/ easily replaced panels, (note the Honda style seams on roof w/ rubber over them), a good body shop would have that car as good as new in a week w/ all new, (not repaired), panels.

That's why I moved to California. The earth may rock here, but at least none of that white stuff is falling off the roof.

In Germany most people that have walk ways going by their house have signs that warn of these roof avalanches. They are very common in places where there is true tile roofs that are set at a steep angle. Often buildings with poor insulation allow heat from underneath to melt the ice and make it slippery ---- you get the idea.

You all assume this is at the guy's house. What if he visitied his family or friends?

George

Depressing pictures.

You never would have thought that much ice of that size would form up on the roof. Seems too large for the gutters but I can see where it ripped them off also. The ice looks like 2' thick blocks. Surprised it didn't break any windows.

I would love to know what the repair estimate will be. some of the panels will need to be REPLACED, not fixed. What an absolute shame...
