HELP! 964 eng. compartment wiring
Hey everyone,
I've been trying to install a mass flow sensor in my '93 RSA, and it is slow goings. Almost a week later, I think I can have it running tomorrow with some help from you guys. I just overnighted the parts which I hope will allow me to install the sensor/airfilter istelf onto the car, but I have 1 more wiring problem. I have finally confirmed/figure out how to wire it, apparently the 3.6s and 3.2s differed greatly in this respect and that's where most of my problems were. Having said that, the only complication is that I need to run a power wire into the MAF's harness. I really don't want to run one the length of the car, and one of the guys that I work with suggested running one off of the fuse box in the engine compartment. This makes sense to me, but we've honestly never done this to a 964 before, only older 911s. Does anyone have any suggestions for what would be the best and safest way to do this? I would really apprecaite any help you guys can give. Thanks

Don't know if this will be of any help, but I just wired in a relay for aux.blower fans for my rear AC condensor from an extra unused fuse in the engine compartment. On mine, there were 3 fuses, but only 2 actively used; the 3rd fuse location was already wired 12v from one side and all that was required was to wire in my relay power line on the other side of that particular fuse.

I do use all three fuses, but that really shouldn't matter. You can always pull the power from before the fust, and maybe add an in-line fuse or something like that. I think I'm going to end up pulling the whole fuse panel out of the car since it isn't open like on earlier 911s. Lol, really starting to wish I'd done this at the shop and not at home, but I thought it was going to be a really simple installation.

I've got the fuse box taken apart, unfortunately, some of the wires are impossible to remove without making it a huge deal, but here's a pic of what i'm working with.
![]() the circle is the 3 block, it's really 3 1 fuse holders taped and mounted together. It would be great to remove one and recrimp a terminal, but i'm not sure how easy to do that's going to be. I think I could just tap into a line where the arrow is pointing without too much trouble. I still can't decide if doing it before or after the fuse is the best way. I don't know... does this sound like a good or a bad idea to anyone?

the bottom fuse is the only one I don't use anymore since it's for the A/C compressor, that's probably the one to mess with if I'm going to. Tapping into the lines shouldn't be bad, I think a spade connection will even work really well here, especially if everything gets crimped and heat shrunk really nicely.
I just need to find out if it has constant power or only when you turn the A/C on.

lol, I figured I'd have people throwing me suggestions left and right on this one... still open to anything.

well, I managed to get it wired in okay... made one little mistake. Forgot that the fuses get power constantly... so it's alway's drawing power. I need to check and see how many amps it's pulling. I'm hoping it's just lighting an led, like my V1 does when I forget to turn it off, if so it's no big deal.
lol, it doesn't really matter though because the car won't run... it'll turn over and it'll fire like hell... just won't run.

rennlist wasn't much of a help, and every kit is different... I really need someone who has installed PRO-M mass flow sensor kit to chime in... I'm starting to think I'm the first 3.6 kit they've ever sold.
the current problem is this: according to them everything is hooked up correctly, and should work, but the car doesn't start. I don't think the 3.2 carreras are that different, in fact, I thought they used the same airflow sensor, and if they do, then hopefully I was just sent the wrong wiring, but basically it looks like the DME in my car wants to see a temp reading coming off of the sensor in k ohms, and an airflow reading in volts, and their harness is wired for the opposite. Does anyone know if 3.2s are different than this?
