Will backdating heat increase cylinder head temps?
Hey guys,
I am considering backdating my heat in order to tidy up the engine bay. However, I started thinking about whether my 1980 SC has a different fan shroud or ducting that was designed especially for the current heater setup compared to the early pre 1974 cars with the old heater design. In other words, if I backdate my heat on one or both sides will I be changing the engineered design of cooling my cylinder heads and be reducing the amount of air being directed over them? I'm concerned since I track this car regularly. Thanks,

Now for the explanation, I think the earlier ducting has actually better ducting since it didn't rely on the blowers that later model have. It isn't that different besides. These winters around here can get your mind wondering. Don't worry, you will be driving your car soon.

Thanks Michael. You are right about the winters and the wondering mind. I was about to place my order at Auto Palace and started thinking too much.
BTW, I took out the A/C last weekend as I noticed that my compressor was leaking oil and I didn't want to put money into an accessory that I only use twice a year anyway. We need to get together for lunch one Saturday. Noel

Noel, I backdated my Carrera and the oil temps actually went down a bit. I think the SSI's run a bit cooler and you no longer have the catalytic converter and its heat.

As long as your alternator has the air dam on the back of (unlike mine), you should be ok. My SSI's and backdated heat cook me out of the car. Heat is far better now than with the blower.

Backdate. lot's of heat for the interior and no apparent increase in engine/head/oil temps.
