Oil change & Front Oil cooler how to drain
Is there a seperate drain plug for the font oil coolers on a 911 1986? I have looked in the shop manuals and see nothing.

Nope...you just leave that old oil in there, let it mix with the new. If you upgrade to Elepant racing's system, it has a feature that rids the cooler of oil, an air fitting so you can literally blow it back into the tank for draining. Read more about it here:

That doesn't seem very German. Is the thought that it doesn't hold very much the reason. I was also assuming that everything before the front wheel won't flow back to tank and everything after the front wheel does return to the oil tank. Is that correct?

All of the oil eventually gets recycled through the entire system. No oil is left in the front oil cooler as it will eventually make its way back to the engine.

I'm not sure on how much flows back...I believe that in my car, the lines to the front cooler remain full as well. The '72 is a unique year for the oil system though. I do know the specs book says my car holds 10 quarts, but it only takes me 8 1/2 quarts with each oil change, so I guess that translates to approx. 1 1/2 quarts of dirty oil left in the system. Elephant racing has the only set-up I've seen that removes more...

Any oil in the oil pipes, and the oil cooler, infront of the thermostat by the back right wheel stays there until the thermostat opens again under temperature. Don't bother about the oil in the cooler as you have another couple of litres in the oil lines that you won't get out unless the Elephant systems drain that too..

Some coolers( like B&B) do have drains on them

In addition to a drain that could be added to an aftermarket front cooler, adding an air vent (not necessarily pressurized) would help oil drain from this part of the system.
