STRANGEnoise from front passenger wheel well..help?
noticed a loud humming almost like a harmonic brake squeal (if that makes sense) at highway speeds (60-70mph). Was somewhat intermittant and only did it for a short while. The brakes were nt depressed or anything...was pretty loud...any ideas?
it is an 82 sc coupe ...standard fuchs

Two thoughts: Wheel bearings going dry? Or, something my car did after sitting for quite some time. The (happened to be passenger side) brakes where sticking and dragging on rotors. Didn't really make noise, but sure got that rotor warm. Maybe compare rotor temps (left to right sides) and maybe with something other then a finger. Hope this helps a little.

A wheel bearing would be my first guess. But you could have had some debris caught between the rotor and the backing plate, or jammed around the caliper/pads.

Could be rusted front torsion bars, shot a-arm bushings, or dead ball joints. My SC was making the same intermittent noise, and it seemed to be the result of the front bushings or t-bars. I replaced both of these parts and the noise is gone now. Not to mention it gave me a reason to upgrade to 22mm/30mm t-bars
. Good luck. |
