In order to build a great hot rod, one has to look beyond the horizon.
The result of my crash program of getting my car to the show/swap is nothing more than a dead car and a nasty cold/sinus infection from working way too many hours outside on a cold concrete slab.
So, while sitting in the doctor's office (I was bright enough to bring along the new Excellence, no small feat with all the damn remedies I've been taking), I was reading about the 911GS (no such thing) that TRE built for Peter Hubburd. Due credit goes to previous owner Bob Wake who was ahead of the times and developed the car to many of the current features some time ago. However, Dave refined and defined the car to it's current state. We've seen pics of it here many times. It's the pale white, or Linen, with the Minilites. But, the thing that got me was Dave B. installed......................................... ..... a Camaro muffler? Then I remembered something about the the Camaro having a cross-the-chassis design. So, it was oriented right for the job. Dave used a better flowing aftermarket Walker DynoMax. That may be the one shown here with a bunch of plumbing for the Carmaro: ![]() The first guy that figued out how to put Packard tail light lenses in a '56 Chevy tail light was one of these kinds of people. You have to know a lot about lots of cars to combine the best mod for your rod. Like Buick finned drums on your '34 Ford. I've seen this car at Ventura and at Long Beach, but I didn't look underneath. I guess I'm gonna have to start bringing a small blanket so I can enjoy what's under some of these car. Dave, I don't know if that was your idea originally, but I'm giving you credit for it. ![]() |

I had a f-body flaumeister on my '72 as well when I was in Maryland and drove cross country. It was loud as hell but probably due to the way the outlets were fabbed.

OK, so this is old news. Dave still has the talent to visualize and adapt, IMHO.
A couple of years ago I looked at dual in-dual out mufflers from Dynomax and Flowmaster. They all looked pretty damn big and bulky. I never saw the Camaro size replacement. The point wasn't about the muffler itself anyway. The point is about taking the best from other, outside applications and making an improvement. Many seem to copy someone else. Now and then, someone thinks out of the box. I'm trying to emphasize that. Any other examples of innovative thinking that goes beyond what the factory may have done and is being sooooo copied these days? |
