I installed one of Jim's subcooler designs, and it seems to work fairly well. Since I did a complete A/C rebuild I can't say how much it helped. Anyone contemplating an A/C rebuild should do a search on "Jim 'Sims" and print out what they find. I found so much information that was unbelievable, and gave me the confidence to take on such a task.

I am completing a AC upgrade this coming weekend.I removed the engine mounted condensor then added a huge underbelly condensor plus a fan assisted condensor in the left rear wheelwell then plumbed to the OEM front condensor.I expect this setup to work well in Orlando Fl. summers.I replaced all the rubber hose with new barrier hose and removed,flushed,cleaned the evaporator and installed a new expansion valve plus receiver drier.Our host,AC Kits and ACSource are great places to purchase parts.I was able to find a local shop that was willing to work with me to make hose.I purchased the hose,ran it to get my length and clocking right for right angle connectors then brought it to him to crimp the ends.I will be pulling a vacuum this weekend and hopefully I'll have no leaks.To answer your original question you can't have too much condensor in my opinion.

I live in hot Texas and Mexico desert and I'm planning to use one new VW Beetle AC setup (new R-132 [I think] condensers/receiver/drier/subcooler) I seen it before in a long hood P-car and works great.

I special ordered my Red Dot triplex switches (and wiring harnesses with socket) from an on-line vendor (automotiveacparts.com) but unfortunately they have gone out of business. You should send an e-mail to one of the several on-line vendors of automotive ac parts and request a special order. Red Dot is a well known brand name. I used a Red Dot RD-5-4583-0P (alternate part number 71R7550) triplex switch with a female 7/16-20 Schraeder fitting to screw onto a male schrader fitting integral with the 90 degree Beadlock hose fitting that the output of my compressors discharged into. There are also "T" versions of these fittings that you can place inline between the compressor and first condenser. See the ATCO on-line fitting catalog. Also required with the Red Dot switch is the triplex wiring harness and socket which snaps over the switch connections; it is Red Dot part number RD-5-4621-0P (alternate part number 71R4500).

Hey Jim,
Did you ever do any temp measurements at the subcooler to see how well it works? I just got mine and now seeing how small it is wonder if I might want to use two side by side in series... I do like it though and worth every penny of $18. What do you think?
