Was it the PB Blaster?
I just loosened two 26 year-old oil lines using a crescent wrench.
I read a lot in these forums about how tough those things are to take off, so I started spraying them with penetrating oil over the course of about 4 weeks. I sprayed them with the penetrating oil, heated them up (a little) with a propane torch and then sprayed again. Probably did that 4 times because I had lots of other projects to keep me busy. When it came time for the oil cooler, I thought I'd at least give basic tools a try before buying anything special and I was surprised at how easily the lines came lose. It wasn't even difficult, really. I never put much stock in that kind of stuff working, but maybe it is pretty effective if you have the time to let is sit and repeat applications. No, I don't work for PB Blaster. But I guess I'm a very satisfied customer. Hope you all have the same luck. Martin |

AFIK, the seal on an oil line fitting is internal from the threads. So, IMHO, the PB penetrated the treads with the aid of the heat.
Good tip. |

I used PB Blaster on the 20 year old nuts on my muffler when I replaced it. I soaked them for a couple of days, and they practically fell off when it came time to remove the muffler. PB Blaster is magic!

It seems that the tighter the connection, the more PB Blaster wicks into the connection. Amazing stuff and cheap. But don't get it on paint, it will have an effect if you leave it on too long.

On another board I belong to for old 2 stroke motorcycles, EVERYONE swears by PB Blaster. Everything else is supposedly garbage in comparison. That's the overwhelming opinion, at least...

as another data point, I undid my 24 year old oil lines for a cooler upgrade with no thread penetrant at all, had to crank on them a little but no problem with the proper tools.

I also am a staunch supporter of PB Blaster, the stuff works extremely well, albeit slightly odiferous.

Aerokroil used to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, until I discovered PB Blaster

I've never seen PB Blaster here on the shelf in Canada, I wonder if we get it at all.
That said......the oil lines going to the front oil cooler are easy, they're steel on steel. I did these on my car without any penetrating oil at all. Let me know how much luck you have on the thermostat in the rear fender well though. That's steel on aluminum and after 4 months of working with various solvents, wrenches, torches and cutting tools the b*tch finally came loose...and took the threaded part of the thermostat with it. The threads of the thermostat were FUSED into the threads on the oil line nut. This was the singularly most frustrating mechanical experience of my life. Glad it happened though. Everything else is easy now. ![]()

PB Blaster and Kroil are 2 products that actually do what they claim. From my own personal experience they are some of the very few produsts that due what they claim, the other is STP Clomplete Fuel System Cleaner.

Also, the reason I tied the stuff for the 1st time is that it says on the bottle "do not use more than once every 4,000 miles), that made me think ,hmmm, strong stuff. So if you have an older, high mileage 911, it might be good for you. I have heard good things and read good things (i think on this BBS) about the Techron stuff, but I have never tried it as I found something that works and I stuck to it. Erik

Not to be redundant, but PB Blaster is a great product and I have also found that heat tremendously augments its effectiveness (or vice versa, I guess); it's a virtual necessity for these electrolytically bonded alu. on steel fastener situations if you want to preserve your parts. As these cars and their fasteners get older, products like this will be more and more essential...

PB Blaster is one of those products that you just know has to be good because the label is so gawd-awful ugly.
No slick marketing; just a great product.
