1985 911 Windows moving sloooow

My drivers windows zips up and down no problem, but passenger power window seems like it is struggling. Would that be the wotor, regulator, switch or perhaps not enough power?

Is your car a Targa? If so this is apparently normal this happens in my 82 SC targa. Just replaced the motor in my passenger side as it died and the new motor runs slow as did the old one prior to dying.

Does it go slow with the door open or closed?

Sorry this not normal.

You may have to open up the door, remove the tracks, remove the nearly 30 year old dried grease and re-apply fresh grease. Did both of mine earlier this year and it makes a very noticeable difference.

My passenger window has the same ish.. Think it needs a lube job, grease might be stiff from lack of use.

It could be that the tracks are sticky but it also could be that the hub for the helper spring is broken. Both hubs on my 88 Carrera are broken. The windows still go up and down but up is much slower. Look for a loose part at bottom of the door. It has a slot for the end of the spring. Here is a link to a thread that addresses this problem and has pictures:

Here's one data point. I recently reworked both windows on my 79. I replaced all soft parts, cleaned and lubricated regulators, motors, and aligned the tracks. My passenger window was still noticably slower than the drivers side. After a little troubleshooting, I found the voltage making it to the passenger side motor was significantly less than that making it to the drivers side motor. I replaced the crimp connectors at both the drivers and passenger side and the speed increased somewhat, but the voltage is still lower than the drivers side. I suspect that I'd need to pull new wire to completely fix it. I'm going to live with what I have.

Consider that power to the passenger side motor routes via the drivers side door switch. There are several more crimped connections in that circuit to go bad. One high resistance connection is all it takes. With this configuration, coupled with the age of these connections, it seems logical that passenger side windows would be consistently slower.

Doug,
That makes a lot of sense.

You can always jumper 12 volts from your battery to the motor wires at the switch. But if you're like me, when you see the difference, it will only make you want to start a new project to replace your old window switch wiring. Unfortunately, there are many other "old wiring" weaknesses in my car that need attention before my windows....

This is great info for all of us. I know this is a common problem.

I don't get the whole rewiring speeding up process? My passenger side window is slower but by not even a second difference. Unless yours is moving in geological time is it worth the effort of pulling new wires??

Can't stress enough how important it is to clean the regulator arms - you will be pretty shocked at the old grease and how it burns out electric motors. BTW, mine are manual windows - the difference was amazing.
