In middle of Clutch Replacement: Here are a few Pics....

I started my clutch replacement today:

I made a flywheel lock with a piece of metal.

I then removed all of the 6MM Hex bolts that hold the pressure plate and clutch in place.

I then carefully removed all 6 flywheel bolts without a problem. I was scared @$%@$ that I was going to strip something.

It was unclear if the flywheel seal was leaking but I decided to remove it. The tranmission was definitely dumping goo all over this area.... Here is a pic of what I found...

And here is what my engine now looks like after I have done a bunch of work...

I do actually have 2 questions:

1) Is there any trick to removing the old pilot bearing from the flywheel? And is there any trick to installing the new one?

2) How hard is it to re-assmeble the new throwout bearing on the pressure plate? Other than that the clutch job looks very straightforward.

3) Anything else I should know replacing the clutch?

Thanks.

Ian

to remove the pilot bearing - fill hole with grease - insert dowling or clutch alignment tool in hole - tap dowling with hammer.

Do your homework before replaceing the flywheel seal. Make sure you have the correct one and the method of installation, Its a real ***** to drop the engine a second time.

So what is the correct flywheel seal part for a 72 T?

And what is the best way to install for years of leak free service?

Thanks.

Feel the surface to be absolutely sure it is nice and smooth and flat.
Tap the seal in square...

I say your flywheel seal was leaking!
use a slide hammer to remove the pilot bearing.
