Sticky situation: door latch/handle question
I have been having problems with my door latch not staying closed on the ST. It seems that the fiberglass doors are causing problems with alignment. Maybe someone can help here.
The door handle has a lever arm that rotates back and forth to "flip" the Y shaped section on the latch mechanism to lock the car. The pin on the door handle lever arm is rubbing the latch lock Y. This rubbing prevents the Y part to slide on its pin. When the Y part does not slide it prevents the latch arm from engaging its slot on the door latch. Now that you know the problem help me find a solution. I took apart the door handle and latch and they are clean and relubed. I think the spring may be old and worn. If anyone has their door apart, is the door handle locking arm suppposed to touch the latch Y arm? I suspect not. When I wiggle a key in the door handle you can hear every thing spring into place. Its just a slight click but that's all it takes. Any suggestions.
