sportomatic dude

Hi all,
I own a ī69 911T sportomatic with a later 2.4T engine... in boxes. I have bought a good looking 2.2E MFI engine (manual type). I know I need another fuel pump to match the MFI... What more do I need to fit this trans with the new engine?(I have heard about an sporto oil pump)....I would like to leave the sporto trans in the car but I donīt know what will happens when the engine runs!
Thanks!

69sporto,

I don't know the first thing about sportomatics, but would guess that you may find some info in the Bentley manual - it usually lists differences across years/models, and might be of some help.

Cheers!

Use the search function as there is a fair bit of stuff on this board in relation to them... Top right corner of the screen.

Cheers

I'm confused. The vacuum needed to operate the system is generated by a tube off the left bank of the carbs and stored in a surplus tank on the firewall. Where do you get the "air" for the system in a fuel injected set-up?

Same place... off the inlet manifold. The vacuum is created by by the pistons so it doesn't matter whether you're running carbs or MFI.

How's that car running Joe

Hi John,
Car running well but it's so cold and salty that it is hiding in my parents garage until April. I had no idea that you can have sporto on MFI engine? and I fancied myself an expert.....

sporto - MFI

Hey Joe, I didn't know either.

I've been lazy lately and need to start re-assembling. Just had the chain covers milled flat and plan on going w/ NOS original tensioners instead of the Carrera oil-fed.

Anyway, I have a '71 Sporto Targa - very original condition purchased last June from the estate of a German -born "hands-on" type. Re-paint with some bondo of around 4-5" Diam. on pass. door and rear panel, but really very clean.

Removed the A/C last month but am leaving the underdash "factory" system as it really makes the dash look cleaner and more finished.

Hope to driving this Spring.

How tough a job is a master cylinder replaclement?? Anyone know?

Hope all is well out there.

Alex

Hi all from Auckland,New Zealand.

First post for me here and I just had to jpoin because of the wealth of info circulating around here.Just bought my first Porsche in Nov 04.I was thinking about getting one for about 10 years and knew it had to be a 911.My first preference was a 930 but I ended up getting a 73 E Targa Sporto because it came up for an awesome price.Had to get the brakes done but thats about all.Its Tangerine in colour with Fuches.

I wasnt sure about owning a sportomatic Porsche as I always considered Porsche to be a car that needed to be driven by a manual gearbox. However I am delighted with the sporto gearbox for now.I hanker for a 2.4 S with a manual box though if a 930 doesnt come my way soon.

My 2c.

Vern.

Welcome Dreamer

But I dunno why you'd lust after 930 when you have an E!!!

Thank for the welcome Fish C.

Well why not.Since owning this E I've had an opportunity to do proper comparisions between a pre 83 930 and the pre 74 2.4's.
IMHO,a 930 works for me.The seat of pants acceleration is phenomenal in a 930 and I love the wide hunkured down look as well.

Because my car is a Targa I dont see it as exciting as a S coupe. Its still awesome to drive and the engine sounds lovely but get out of that into a 79 930,woooah.Check the photo and the plates. This is how I found it.Its currently in the panel shop getting assesed for a minor body tidyup.

The sporto oil pump is located to the right of the flywheel and fixes to a casting in the casing via three 10mm bolts. I don't think you will be able to retro-fit a sporto oil pump to an engine that began life mated to a manual gearbox unless you are prepared to re-engineer the engine!?. The MFI isn't the issue as some sportos have MFI. However converting sportos to manuals is relatively simple.

Thanks, Bones!
Looks like I have a problem.....
I still donīt undestand how works a MFI sporto....The same cam moves the sporto oil pump and MFI?...

"However converting sportos to manuals is relatively simple".
I hope!!!
