Paint price is not determined by the color. (Assuming a regular, production car paint).

It's determined by the paint quality.

High quality paint (Sikkens, Glasso, etc.) is very expensive!

Does the brand of the paint actually make a difference? And if so...what?

My car was painted 3 years ago with Sikkens, but recently i went to NAPA and had them color match it so i could paint the front trunk. It wasnt done when the exterior was and i have always wanted to do it.

Anyway, they sell Martin Senour paint. I paid about $23 for a pint and it was a perfect match. They had the exact orange color in their book and it looks very good.

For an exterior application, the NAPA paint may not hold up as well as the Sikkens but for my trunk it looks great.

It has always been my understanding that when painting with automotive paints, the more pure color pigment that there is in a solution, the more the paint is going to cost. Red is one of, if not the, most pigmented paints available. Murrays auto sells a guards red that I found to be one of the cheapest around. I figured that it was because they bought so much of it that they were able to offer it a such a good price to their customers. I believe that the manufacturer of it is sherwin williams.

There are a variety of paints on the market. One of the best, in my opinion, is House of Color. The atomization and coverage are outstanding. The colors are true and deep as well. We use it in airbrushing and the results are perfect.
