Not using my A/C, should I remove the belt?

I have a love/hate relationship with my A/C. I love it when it works (after a R12 charge), but hate it when it doesn't (now) and when I don't need it (now). Right now, the compressor just sits there and spins (in idle) everywhere I go.

In a couple months, I am going to pay $$$ and get the leaks fixed and the system charged. In the meantime, does it hurt to remove the belt and save some wear and tear on the pulley?

Leave the belt and change over to the new stuff 134a it cost $ 5.00 a can so to fill your system should only cost fifteen dollars. You should change out your dryer when converting . You can also by some 134a with leak finder it is easy to do .

I ended up removing mine all together (system was already empty). Removed the compressor, belt, cooler on deck lid, capped and tied back the lines. I still have the parts for the next owner, but it freed up alot of room in the engine bay.
