MFI Pump re-installing and crankshaft timing mark help
When I removed the MFI pump from my '73 911E project, I made sure the mark on the MFI pump pulley lined up with the mark on the MFI housing. Now I've soaked the pump in Berrymans B12 and am ready to reinstall it. I did rotate the pulley a lot while it was out to check the pump action. I'm assuming the MFI pump pulley is like the crankshaft...you must rotate it 360 degrees twice to complete a full cycle. Or is it one rotation per cycle?
Wayne's book (and Haynes) says to find TDC for cylinder #1, rotate 360 degrees (to find TDC for #4), then turn to the mark labelled "FE". My crankshaft pulley has no letters whatsoever (and I looked pretty hard), just notches. The car never had A/C, so it is a single crankshaft pulley. Is the "FE" notch the one that is just an inch or so past the TDC mark for #1/#4? Thanks for any help. Can't wait to hear her roar! |

Jay,
MFI pump only turns at cam speed -- half crank speed, and has 360° for one cycle! Here is proper location for the FE notch/mark: ![]()

Hi Warren!
>MFI pump only turns at cam speed -- half crank speed, and has 360° for one cycle! That makes things a lot easier!!! I should be able to just put the pump back in as it was. I know that cams turn at 1/2 speed...didn't make the connection. ![]() Where you have the red FE marked on your pics is approximately where my crank pulley is now (where the MFI pump notches lined up), but there is NO notch there! Is that common? Warren, you are awesome! Your past threads have helped me a BUNCH with this MFI project. |

Jay,
If the wife, gf, or daughter can spare a bit of outragous pink/red/orange fingernail polish ... clean the pulley with wire brush and Scotchbrite ... and measure the distance from the 5° ATDC notch to the 35° BTDC notch, then find the point exactly the same distance to the left of the Z1/TDC notch and put a dab there!
