18's--spare tire, what would you do?

I run 18" turbo twist's with Pirelli P-0's. I have the factory stock 15" spare tire. Will there be a problem with this spare if I have a flat? Can I run one 15" tire with the other 18' tires? What would you guys do, run without a spare, or keep the spare in for any emergencies. Its a widebody, so I cant use a factory jack. What should I carry for this type of repair? Do I need to carry a floor jack and assorted sockets, etc. Thanks for any help.

I would not run 18" and 15" at the rear axle for more than a couple of miles, as it can put quite some strain on your diff (depending on your actual tire size and the difference in circumference). For the front axle I don't see a problem. If you have a flat at the rear axle, I would rather change one of the front 18" wheels to the rear and then use the 15" spare for the front. Of course you will need the right jack for this. Might be easier to call AAA or a flatbed if you need to.

Thanks Buster for the reply. I might do that, front to rear, for a short time. I just need to find a small jack if needed. Or call AAA

Yeah, and while we're on this topic, I pulled out my spare b/c of this-I run 17's and a rear flat would be major hassle, so just call for a tow.
However, I'm willing to buy the "crush structure argument, so do I gain anything by filling the well with expandable foam? Or should I just fuggitabout it?

I'm not using my car for DE or Ax's so Ill just put it back in and go on. It sounds like a good idea for any frontal crash.

Send a message via Yahoo to Lukesportsman
Did you upgrade the BRAKES? Many of us upgrade brakes along with rims and this rules out the stock 15" from fitting in the future. Just didn't want you to overlook this by chance and get stranded.

No not yet. The bigger brakes are on my "to do/want" list. But it is a good idea. Thanks
