well, went and talked to the guy... intresting storys..
he was eyeing my 7's and 8's a bit too much for his RS project!! he had seen a few BAE kits before. He said that he could see my car when i get back from so-cal. he said he will try and place the turbo as close to the stock location as he can.. and see if he can get it to gravity drain.. but if not he said he could put a fitting on the sump plate drain bolt and drain down there? i never heard of that.... ever.... so that raised the eyebrows a bit. he said that he would make a small plate so that it wouldent be riped off if i bottomed out.... still dont like that idea... his shop was full. one 914, one bug, his RS and a 912.... so no luck fiting me in before im off to cali. |
I may have a solution soon for the turbo draining issues.
I am working with a gentleman here to turbo my SC and he has just manufactured a scavenging pump that will bolt onto the rear of our motors just like the factory 930's. It will be driven by the cam on the driver’s side of the motor. It will flow better than the stock pumps so it will also be a good upgrade for 930's using later or aftermarket turbo’s. Not sure on the cost yet but I will post a thread with all the info when he gets them back from the machine shop. |
I have the 930 turbo pump fabricated on the back of my cam for my 914 install but you are way better off using the gravity drain seeing all the trouble I had scavenging with the Rayjay, scavenging a K27 is a whole different story than the less tolerant to oil backup Rayjay.

Based on what I see in your pictures, the turbo location is close to where it should be but needs to be a little bit more towards the center, ie farther away from the driver's side of the car. That might help get you the clearance needed to raise it up enough to get it to drain. Either that or it neds to be farther back towards the bumper. It's hard to tell from the pictures.
On my car it is almost impossible to get to the upper muffler bolts (where the muffler bolts to the turbo) without doing a partial drop or unless the muffler is installed before bolting on the turbo. The drain on my car isn't very steep, it is almost level with the turbo oil drain only about 1/2" above the hole in the chain cover. |
well, gravity drain is the better option and i will try and make that work...
but not untill after i get back... but with only a 1\2 inch to work with.... i need to make sure i get it right.... |
just a quick blurp...
is the flange for the turbo even with the hole in the timing chain cover? |
