all the plumbing is done... well at least up top

i wasent sure where i was going to put the oil tank vent line...if thats what you call it..

i sure dont want the oil tank under boost so i attached to a un-used hole on the right side of the airbox.... before the sensor plate...

thats ok right?

the not-so-fun under the car stuff starts tomorrow... also with hydraulic timing chain tension’ers... those will be a pain to work around...

Search the archives under "oil tank venting". Same applies to a turbo. You'll want to install a catch can to help separate oil/gas from the air flow before recirculating back into the engine.

Nick, try contacting Sammy G, tsuter for suggestions and look over tsuters original thread for ideas, one thing I know is the mounting flange was mounted at an angle to perhaps give you more room up and out.

i had the mounting flange at an angle...

but its hiting the turbo smack dab in the middle... lowest spot on the compresser side.. and the exhaust side is just slightly lower..

i will re-lookover it.. im contimplating backdating HE;s just to end this guessing on where the turbo needs to be located...

ive spent so much money already... save me!

that or taking a lump of money to the local shop and taking all the pictures i can find of of the install and saying...

"everyhting's done except this god dam exhaust pipe... make me one that works!"

now that i look at it... maybe i will just take it to the shop all put together... and they can bend me a pipe thats closer...to the pictures...

At least you gave it the old college try. I'm sorry I came late to this thread and might have missed some basic information...
1) Is that an SC engine you're trying to install it on? If so, what year SC engine?
2) How much boost were you thinking of running?

Thanks.

It looks like the turbo needs to be reclocked. The Turbo outlet should be at 11:00 o'clock vs the oil supply and drain.
I can post a drawing... but not this week.

This is without a doubt the finest picture I have seen on this forum!!! And deserves a bump!!!

I'd like to trounce on the gas pedal of the 5.0 Mercury to the right. What were those things called back in the day? Cougars? Sort of a sister to the 5.0 Mustang.

I am trying to remember how that cross over pipe looked but it seems to me that the flange was angled two ways it was canted forward and sideways. I hope you still have all the ss pipe I sent you, there should be enough to redo the job. You can always use flexible aluminum hose to figure out the run and have it duplicated, I would install the intake and compressor pipes also so you will know exactly were the turbo needs to be.
Get that turbo angled right and you might be able to fit that Flowmaster muffler in. I always look at it this way, figure out were everything fits then find the easiest path to connect it all up. It took
me three tries fabricating my crossover pipe in the 914.
Keep us informed

well... thanks for all the little bits and pieces... but all the stainless was 2inch or 3 inch...
the on the side system comes from a 2.5inch pipe... so cant use the 2inch..
the three inch elbow is used for my dump pipe right now.. untill i can fit the flowmaster..

so i guess im going with non ss stuff

as of right now i put it back together and im going to drive it to the local "air cooled only" shop..
i will install all the boost pipes and then push the car into the shop for them to make the exhaust pipe...
i was quoted 140$ and up to make the pipe
i will be bringing all the pictures i can find to help..
might just go with the older style HE's... hes got a pair...

i know its the cough out way to do it... but i cant seem to get that pipe in the right spot..

at least i learned alot jaming my head into the cis and laying on my back for two days!

If the turbo drain is in the right spot with the boost and intake pipes in position, then it's a small matter of fabricating a new exhaust inlet pipe or modifying the current one to fit. If the turbo drain elevation is not correct, you'll have to modify all the pipes. Make sure you support the turbo with another bracket.

After you fine tune the setup , you may want to make another exhaust inlet pipe out of stainless steel. The mild steel pipe will wear out quickly due to the heat and elements.

My $.02,
Sherwood

let me get everything set in mild steel....i dont have SSI's so im sure the HE's would be gone by now if it was that big of a deal..

the intake pipes have alot of wiggle room, i just need to wiggle them closer to the drain..

that and angle the turbo more... then i think ive got it

I cant wait to hear your responce after the first test drive, remember to warm the engine up to operating temp before you step on it.
