Value Question, 3.6

Details
30K engine, RS Cams
NO sheet metal
No intake
No computer stuff or harness

Any thoughts?

Craig 930 RS 03-09-2005 05:56 AM

What year?

jmz 03-09-2005 05:59 AM

oh yeah the year could help. It came from a 993, I don't recall the year but can find out.

jmz 03-09-2005 07:53 AM

Late morning bumpity bump.

Jack Olsen 03-09-2005 10:16 AM

Hard to say on the value. It could be a bunch of pieces from an engine that didn't work, or it could be some well-documented components just waiting for an intake and a computer. More details?

jmz 03-09-2005 10:26 AM

I would say well documented. It was taken out of a car to put in a 3.8 RS engine. I believe he used his sheetmetal intake etc. on his car.

Jack Olsen 03-09-2005 10:49 AM

And what's the intended use? it's going to be expensive to source sheet metal, intake, and electronics separately, unless your plan would have been to chuck them and go with some really expensive stuff. In your shoes, my first step would be to get a price list of everything else needed, and compare that -- plus whatever he's asking for the long block -- to the price for a whole motor from one of the usual sources.

silverc4s 03-09-2005 11:01 AM

Seems like this block would be of most value to someone wanting to do PMO's or EFI for a track car...getting it back to street form would be like Jack implies; possibly too expen$$$ive...;-)

mede8er 03-09-2005 11:06 AM

I'd start at $10k and work backwards....get price quotes on the parts you need from your local Porsche dismantler and reduce the price of the engine accordingly......

Bill Verburg 03-09-2005 11:30 AM

W/o ignition and induction it's worthless, except maybe as a boat mooring

silverc4s 03-09-2005 11:35 AM

Bill,
Please elucidate, inquiring minds NEED to know...

jmz 03-09-2005 12:44 PM

so 10K in ITBs, coilpacks and motec just to get started. sounds expensive.

mede8er 03-09-2005 01:07 PM

I'm saying figure $10K to buy a running 3.6 with known documentation (as you specify).....now subtract the cost of ignition, injection tin etc. from that figure and make your offer....

silverc4s 03-09-2005 01:17 PM

I still want to know what a 3.6 long block is worth??? That's basically what we have here, right?

mede8er 03-09-2005 01:34 PM

WAG....I'm thinking the peripherals will cost $4-5000....leaving the block value $5-6000..........
