Question Your theory on what I broke

Here's the background. I'm in my 82 SC, engine off, car parked with wheels straight in a parking lot. I decide that I'm too far away from my pedals and that I should move my seat up. Wisely I hold onto the top of the steering wheel with my right hand and the seat release bar with the other hand. I pull on the steering wheel to move myself forward. (I kinda pull the steering wheel downward to move forward.) Then, POP.

Now, it is very subtle, but the wheel feels a little loose. I can move it slightly on that up-down axis -- the axis on which I tugged the wheel. Sometimes when turning the wheel, I get a little pop or skip. Like the wheel all of the sudden has a tiny bit a play for a second.

What did I break? Something in the bearing? I assume that the damage is in the wheel or bearing, and not the shaft and beyond. I want to know what to look for when I take my wheel off tomorrow. Your thoughts?

You have a later car than I've owned, but I recall a plastic "bearing" in your model. You can explore this on Pelican's parts blow ups. They have a quick fix sleeve that works in many 911s, yours may be one of them. It's about $12, IIRC.
