bedding in Pagids?

What is the best way to bed in a set of Pagid Orange pads??
Their site lists two ways and I am not sure which one to use.

Thanks, Jeff

From the distributors site

RACING PAD BEDDING

PLEASE NOTE:
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE BEDDING IN PROCEDURES ARE BEING DONE ONLY ON
A RACE TRACK. PAGID RACING MATERIAL IS NOT LEGAL FOR STREET USE.

1. GEOMETRIC ALIGNMENT OF PAD SURFACE TO BRAKE DISC BASIC BEDDING IN

3-4 stops with light to medium brake pressure from approximately 150 km/h (90 MPH)
to approximately 100 km/h (65 MPH).

Distance between each brake stop is approximately 300-400 meters (300 to 400 yards).

The pads should not reach temperatures above 300-400 Centigrade (550 to 750 Fahrenheit)
during bedding in.

Blocking of the air ducts might be helpful to reach appropriate temperatures quicker.

2. IMMEDIATELY AFTER BEDDING IN AT HIGH SPEED

One stop with medium to heavy brake pressure without allowing the brakes to lock from
approximately 180 km/h (110 MPH) to approximately 100 km/h (65 MPH).

Recovery stops with light brake pressure 2-3 times.

Repeat the high speed stops, including recovery stops, 1-2 times.

Allow a cooling-off distance of approximately 500 m (500 yards) between high speed stops.

BRAKE DISC
Pagid brake pad material can be used either on solid, grooved or cross-drilled discs.

MOUNTING NEW PADS ON USED DISCS

Edges of pad surface should be filed roughly 45 degrees to ensure that the pad carries fully
and evenly and is not touching the edge of the disc.

Do not use discs which are pre-bedded, or have been used with friction material other

Okay, I wasn't sure if they were "race pads" because they also have a different procedure for "street pads". Thanks, that sounds like fun!!

Hey Jeff, what happened to all of the 3.6L build details and pictures. You tease us with part of the teardown and then you fall of the face of the earth.

Bill,
I just bought a 74 911S H class club racecar needing new pads at all corners. It came with one set of new front Pagid Oranges. I am debating whether to go with Hawk Blues all around or pick up a set of Pagid Oranges for the rear. All my racing buds use the Hawks here in Colorado. My first race is next week in in Texas at TWS, so the Pagid Orange bedding in procedure can be done on the first day. What would you use? As you are our resident brake expert, you insight is valuable to me. Oh the car has ATE slot rotors up front and stock rotors in the rear, plenty of thickness. Brake cooling kit as well.
I have mix success with Hawk Blue's in the past as they eat rotors quick. TIA.

Ralph, I just moved over the last few days. The only change to engine is that the cams and rockers have been reground by John (camgrider) I could take a pic of the motor but it would look just like the last one. I also has a couple of ...ummmm. logistic problems with the new suspension and it is now finally done.... 10days later! I will post some comments on how all that worked out and some impressions as well. I will start to get to the motor in a week or so, but I do not think I have the energy right now to do a quality updated thread like you did. Just finally got a clean bill of health today as well, a big relief, so I might actuall y be able to sleep and rest up!!

Cheers, Jeff

zotman72, the oranges are a very reliable old generation race pad, they are prone to material deposition and resulting vibration when new, bedding helps but won't always eliminate this fact. They are very good at handling track temps

a lot of people like the Hawks but I have never used them so can't comment

PFCs seem to be highly thought of as well.

the newer Pagid compounds are also easier to bed than the oranges

if you have the oranges use them and see if you like them if you don't most any of the newer ceramic/carbon compounds seem to be the way to go from whatever family

Thank you Bill for the your insight. The Pagid Oranges are impossible to find in a pinch here in Denver, so I am going to swap my fronts with Dave @ DartAuto for some comp towards a Hawk Blues four axle set. I have to prep my car this weekend for the club race. I have the PFC golds on my '72 DE car and they did very well last season, but they were not the "Hand of God" bite that I experienced with the Hawk Blues the season before. I guess rotors are chump change compared to other racing components that one must buy to go club racing. The Pagid Orange pads did look very fibrous and your observation about their decomposition seems very plausible. Lordy the Pagids are spendy too.
