Fog light switch question

I have an 85 RoW. The fog light switch pulls out as normal and the lights work fine but it also turns to the right a click. Very much like the rear window defrost. It doesn't seem to do anything when I turn it but it seems odd that it does it without a reason. I don't remember my 83 SC doing that. Anyone have any ideas what it is supposed to do? Thanks.

The fog light switch turns on the front fog lights, when you pull it out.

When you then turn it to the right, it turns on the rear fog lights (if you have them). Most USA cars do not. But you are wired for it, so check to see if you have a rear fog light (do a search for rear fog light), and you can see what it's supposed to look like. If you don't have yours, then it must have been removed by a PO, for all Euro cars had them (lots of fog in Europe, don't you know).

Thanks Andras. It does have a red light down by the tailpipe. The PO I just bought it from said that was a 3rd brake light they put on it to get it legal in CA but I thought that sounded pretty odd. I will have to see if it turns that on.

That's the one, on the left. Actually, I've always wondered why Porsche AG never put the fog lights in the rear plastic lens (on either side of the word "Porsche", as on 911SC. Audi does a nice job of hiding theirs in the plastic panel, and yet is nice and bright when turned on.

If turning the knob doesn't make the light work, you might have bulb problems, wiring problems, or switch problems (in that order, from rear to front).

On Euro 87-89 Carreras, the rear fogs were integrated into the rear reflector panel.

Will that panel fit an SC?

Yes, but I think you have to cut out two squares of metal on your car for the lights on both ends of the panel.
