Question Homemade front brake cooling kit

anyone made a front brake cooling backing plate from the original plate? I was thinking of trimming the plate, cutting a hole and welding on a short piece of pipe to connect the duct hose.
I have the hose and duct inlets in my spoiler and looking to complete the project.
Thanks.

Just did that on my '74... Some Home Depot sheet metal, some rivets and a little ingenuity works wonders! Lou

nice job Len and a different approach than most. Most cooler systems I have seen blow on the side of the rotor but yours looks like it is a turbo-charged version of what the factory designed.

I like it! Let's see the rest of the setup-intakes, hose routing, etc.

The gardener left this gizmo in the trash. I don't know if it fell off his truck or his leaf blower. Ya think I have a beginning?

Don't worry. My jack stand isn't leaning. Optical error.

Some more shots... Using 2.5" hose, car has RSR air dam, needed to extend/resize entry from 3" to 2.5". Made cone adapters. Also made custom backing plates for the Wildwood 11.75x1.25" rotors... And a little help for the oil cooler!

Will work on rest of cooling hoses today. Almost done will all the mechanicals. Will start wiring today. Car will have race 3.2l engine, will be used for DE. Enjoy! Lou

Very nice oil cooler installation. Good to see that air flow through the cooler was taken into consideration.

I heard that the bottom of a paint can is the perfect size for a cooling "plate" for an SC/Carrera rotor, but I haven't checked the sizing myself. If you're making homemade plates, it might save some time.

That is a nice oil cooler installation. What make and model is the cooler, and what size is it?

The cooler is a Mocal from BAT in Fla, it is their 70 row, 115 matrix cooler. Size is 6.5 x 22 1/4". Just finished making under A-arm ducts for air hoses... Paint is drying. Pictures tomorrow.

Going out to the garage again to hang up Crankfire modules and new fuse box... Wiring was a mess... Going with a Painless wiring kit for street/race cars... Pretty much that is all that is left... Might take me some time to wire... I don't think I'll make Pocono with NNJR in 4 weeks since I'm sure there will be lots of little things...

Car was found on Ebay. Flew to Chicago, then drove to South Bend, IN. Went back week after that and trailered it to NJ. Race 3.2l going into it. Engine was found in New England about 4 years ago. Came in boxes. I can almost hear it running!!

Some pictures included... I'm having a blast!! Lou (not Len!)

Lou, does these mean you won't be tracking the 996? I didn't realize you were into such a heavy car building project!

Hi Rob, the 996 might still come out to play I had the 3.2l engine for a while... I was just waiting until the right body showed up... This one seem to have been the right one and the price was right!

The wiring has begun!! New wiring is about 7# vs about 21# for the factory wiring... Done for the day... Ready for a cold one! Lou

Yes, I did not want to deal with that mess and 30 yr old wiring. I was cheaper and more reliable to get the Painless wiring kit. Seems to be well put together and with good instructions. Got an 8 switch panel that will mount where the old heater controls used to be... Right on top of cage knee bar.

Bumpers are GT Racing. They seem to fit nicely. All of the body work (paint and steel flares) was done by the PO. He was an elder gentleman that was having some health issues and needed to unload the car. It had a recently redone 2.7, a trans, nice Fuch copys (8 & 9). Car was basically all there. Just needed some TLC. A few things were missing, as expected. But I got it for $4300. Sold the eng and a few other things and I think my total cost is about $350. Not too shabby!

Have put in a cage, 23/31 Sanders, Poly-bronze bushings, monoballs, new shocks, etc... And as of yesterday 202 hours, not including numerous hrs of web surfing, Ebay hunting, studying manuals, etc. I got 100 hrs on the engine. But it is my hobby... And my wife always knows where I am. She calls it "Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang" She also drives on the track... So it should be interesting.

The engine was another steal! $3600 for a race 3.2l. Wood's rebuilt 46IDA, twin plug, Crankfire modules, 964 pump, ported & polished, Niresist rings, boat-tailed, Elgin cam, Cosworth 11:1 pistons... All that was missing were rods (went with Pauter and upgraded Ti retainers) Just needed some minor assembly

Check my website for additional pictures http://basketcasemotorsports.bravehost.com/

Lou (heading to garage to complete brake cooling...)
