Door handles

I have an '88 3.2 Carrera. I've noticed that the mechanisms on the door handles of the 964s and 993s are much smoother than he ones on my car. The ones on mine have a quite a rough "click" when I press the "thingamajug" but the ones on the 964s and 993s are much smoother. I am wondering a follows :-

1.Can I use the later model door handles on my car and still re-use my locking barrel (for obvious reasons). I know it would mean having to re-spray the handles as they are colour co-ordinated with the rest of the body ;

2. Apart from the door handles, do I need to change anything else, eg Door striker plates...etc

3. Has anyone done the conversion and if so, pleased with results ?
