Any Interest in a Secure Indoor Car Storage w/Workshop in LA (SFV)
Do you have interest in renting a space for you car or cars in a secure facility that has:
- Service lift (commercial) - Oil dump receptacles - Rag service - Parts washer - Work benches - Bench grinder - Battery charger - Compressor and air lines - Pallet racks for storage - Outside car wash area - Lounge w/frig, internet access, couch etc. The security is going to be hi-tech, monitored service, card key/coded access, possibly a web cam, recorded video etc. Access to the building's complex is gated and locked. The building is in the central SFV and freeway close. This will be an enthusiast's garage for people passionate about there cars. It's primarily a storage facility with the ability to work on your vehicle. I'll carefully screen each person. There will be insurance on the facility, however each person should insure ther own vehicle. I have found a building that meets the requirements and the facility can be ready in approx. 45 days. I am interested to hear your thoughts on the board or you may e-mail me directly. Thanks Will thrillbur@aol.com |

There's a similar facility in the Bay Area (Bay Area Motor Club). I found it browsing the Web and have not used it, but it looks like it gets some traffic. Sounds like a great idea to me.

It sounds fantastic, the only relevant issue is cost. This type of facility is always available, but cost prohibitive for most DIYers. In other words, it defeats the entire reason why men have fixed their own vehicles since the cavemen, which is cost.

It needs to be operated as a non-profit. A truly needs to be. When it is, it will work well.
We had one of these among a bunch of circle-track guys here in town. It worked very well. It was discontinued when they shut down the track. David Duffield |

Guys, thanks for your response's.
The Bay area shop I believe is in excess of $300 per mo. per car, with minimal amenities. Cost prohibitive for most DIYers and racers. I can deliver a facility with the mentioned amenities for $140-$175 mo. It's certainly not a money maker. It does not make $ense to do it for my toys alone, no economy of scale. With others paying a portion of the expense's, it can work. So, for $130-175 mo/car, any interest? Thanks Will |

Id do it... but only for a month, every few months. I live in South Bay, but part of my sales territory is SFV so I am up there all the time. I would pay to have a personal service facility where I can do the work in private, and then get the car back on the road.
Can you PM me with the approximate whereabouts in the SFV? |

Something like that sounds like a FANTASTIC idea.
If I was in that area, I'd be interested. Will, did you ever sell that silver '72 that you had on the board awhile back? -P |

Please keep me up to date as well; my father-in-law may need to store a 356 and potentially some other vehicles during a major construction project, and I may be interested for my own purposes too.

Guys-
Thanks for the input. It looks like I'll have the facility around the first of June. Email me directly your info and what you are looking for and I'll get back with you. Given the commitment I am making and the capital invested, I am looking for like minded enthusiasts willing to make a 1 yr commitment. Patrick- the silver 72 is still available. It's a good car, I am surprised it has not sold. Thanks Will thrillbur@aol.com |
