Front wheel bearing rebuild

I just rebuilt my front wheel bearings and brakes . I noticed that there was no lock washer behind the allen headed lock nut. Is there a part missing ?

Thanks,

It was very easy and very messy. Have lot's of paper towels for the old grease and some brake cleaner ready also make sure you have a long drift to punch out the old race's.

It's better to heat the hub and press the races in and out. Cooling the races shrinks them and helps them slide easier, it's in the archives.

Did this job last Sat. Oh, what fun! I had to have a shop press out the races.

I believe I've read something about disconnecting the brake lines to move the calipers out of the way. Did you have to do this? I'm in Richmond, Va. anyone have a press or recomend where to take it to to have the races pressed in and out?

Thanks,
Don

You don't have to disconnect the brake line. Just make sure you get a coat hanger rigged up to support the caliper before you remove it and then have to go in the hosue find a coat hanger.

If you do remove the brake line then use a stick wedged between the seat and brake pedal to partially depress the pedal (Keep it this way until the line is reinstalled onto the caliper). This will prevent fluid from continuing to drip out of the open line.

I personally have always just removed the brake lines to remove the calipers. It really is not that difficult to reinstall and do a quick bleed.

Good luck.

Forgot to mention that you can also Dremel out a slot in the strut housing eyelet where the brake line feeds through. The clip will hold it in place and you can still move it around without having to open the brake line. I did this on my new Bilstein HD's before I installed them on my 993 to prevent having to open the brake line. Works like a charm.

On the good note get my wheels back wednesday had the centers powder coated and purchased porsche centers painted to match ! On another note I have two real nice black 6 way adjustable porsche seats if anybody needs them. I am willing to barter or sell cheap to another P.P. who needs them,no e-bay sellers please.
