Another Pelican slip sliding away.....
As the title states another one of us has slipped further down that that slippery slope of Porsche enjoyment. I'll let him identify himself when and if he chooses( actually once he's told his wife where the extra funds in the check book went).
This episode will reveal how the Carrera flares are to be installed using the new (to Me) technique using 3M's panel bonding adhesive. There has been a fair amount of querries as to how good this method really is. Let's explore. Here the Carrera flares are fitted to the quarter using the rockers and the bumper extensions to assertain the correct placement. Here's a look at the difference between the stock fenders and the Carrera flares. I really need a better camera. Sorry for the crappy resolution. As we progress I'll get the camera setting corrected

Not real hard to identify who that belongs to, does his wife surf Pelican?
I'm sure that the body work will be nice as usual.

That's a Daffy Duck. He was so proud of 8's under narrow flares. What happened?

I knew the man in question couldn't deny himself the glory of Carrera flares on his ride forever.
Looks like I'm fighting the skinny-body war by myself now... or at least with one less staunch supporter. It's all the 8" Fuchs' fault...

Ah yes, that 911 belongs to _______.
Yes Ingo is still narrow on his 74 with the 16X8 in back. I too was wondering about the 15X8 in the back of this 911. Thought maybe it was still going to stay narrow. Either way though, nice car and person to go with it. For what its worth, I have no money, errrrr I mean plans to add flares to my 71.

Yikes. Another local takes a big leap forward.
Next track day, I'm going to have to keep an eye in my rear-view. The pupils are going to start passing the teacher.

And Jack, he didn't change the wheels tires too? Next, he'll want 10" under the SC flares. Back to Kevin for turbo flares. ![]() If you don't start, you don't have to guess where it will end up. |

at first kevin i thought that might have been my dad's car, then i saw the yellow cage and we all know who that is. haha. What is the big difference in 3m's bonding versus using epoxy for fiberglass flares??

Nice work!
Did the 8s end up burning the paint on the narrow flares? |

I'm going to second the use of 3M panel bonding adhesive. After my first body guy royally screwed up the install of my fiberglass turbo flares (once the set screws were removed the flares fell off!), I had the new body guy re-install them using the 3M stuff.
24 hours after the install, I CAN'T get the few (3 per side...it's amazing how I went from 9 per side to a properly fitted panel and 3 set screws ) set screws out! The stuff I used has a 90 min work time 4 hour set time and 24 hour cure time. Great stuff!

As promised here are some project update pics.
The tape indicates the bonding surface that will be prepped. Once the original panel is cut the bonding surface is ground with a fresh 36grit disc. The opposing surface on the new panel gets the same treatment. The adhesive is buttered onto both surfaces and using clamps and a cargo strap the new panel is held in place untill the adhesive sets. Thats all for today. We'll make more progress tomorrow.
